It's very interesting that you have provided so many different types of computations, and details. However you could also provide the charts in Classical Indian Systems, which is also very compact to display and convenient for interpretations. I have heard of Cartograpphy which can help show which geographic positions are good & bad for an individual. Perhaps you could throw some light on that? Also some simple generic predictions, in plain english is good enough for many people, as not everyone can interpret the meaning of these charts.. Hope to see these incorporated. Will visit periodically to understand more .. Thanks & Best Wishes

Dear Mr/Mrs, Thanks for your online site. There/I have a time problem with horoscopes I try to make in Colombia. A friend of mine, born in Florencia, is supposed to have a time difference with GMT of 6 hrs. In your system 5 hrs. show up. She is born 17 04 1968 12.00midday. Whats correct? Also, under somebody born 08 nov 1962 at 20.45, Pasto, Colombia, I find a GMT difference of 7hrs. Please advice, and have fun, Theo

Theo van Rijswijk [ *hetnet.nl ]
Vinkeveen, Netherlands --- Thursday, September 30, 1999 at 02:26 Swiss time

Alois adds: I do not know what your source for the 'supposed to 6 hours is'. Acording to all information we can get - and i is a LOT, Columbia has NEVER had any other timezone than 5 hours west of Greenwich, and it had never any daylight savings time.

I think you confuse time difference to Greenwich and time difference to the Netherlands, which of course is one hour more.

The new hart entry form does allow you to set manual timezone if you do not believe the result of or database. But in your case, and in 99% of the other cases where visitors claim a different timezone than our computer gives, you would only get a false chart if you changed the automatic setting to manual and 'fixed it up'.

Hi! I appreciate your wanting to upgrade the site. I love the daily horoscope. But am I missing something? Important stuff got lost in this iteration of the site.

For"natal, transits and progressions," I wanted a "for today" chart. The transits/progressions are for 1/27/99!! That does me no good when my query is dated 9/29/99!! Saturn is no longer in Aries, guys! Also, my progressed Mercury is retrograde (or at the very least stationary/rx), which does not show up on the chart. These are major biggies, gentlemen.

Also, I had to reduce the size of the chart to get a printout. To big, you lose content. Too small, you lose clarity. Old charts were better.

Finally, on the "chart/transits for today", you show NO DEGREES FOR THE TRANSITING PLANETS!! What am I doing wrong? This can't be. If it is, shame on you. Maybe you want everyone to run several different charts to get the info we used to get in one chart?

As much as I realize the pressure of being current on website information, I am sorry to say, this new format leaves a lot to be desired.

Alois adds: I thank you for your comments. and feel deeply ashamed of our bad service for you. I recommend that you visit one of your other favorite chart sites in the future.

Some of these absolutely shameful shortcomings will be addressed in a future version of our website; some features are already there but require that a user accesses also the 'additional data tables' available for most chart types.

Hi Alois, Thanks for the update on the Void of Course Moon status I think you could just use VOC and we would all know what it meant. I was looking in the dictionary for info about Chiron relating to synastry but it did not have anything about that side of it. I have info from past posts in the a.a.m. newsgroup if you like I could copy them for you. Thanks

I think, feel, the range of aspects is rather wide. An opposition of 9 degrees orb off is too much. I like the drawing and the service Thank you. Jenny

jenny van laar [ *planet.nl ]
, netherlands --- Wednesday, September 29, 1999 at 16:04 Swiss time

Alois adds: Among the various chart styles there are some who use narrower orbs. In our 'standard' styles we follow Liz Greene who uses 10 degree orbs for the strong aspects. You can always disregard an aspect for which you think the orb is too wide. But there is no general rule, each astrologer does what he/she likes best.

HOORAY! Declinations! The adobe format is terrific. Can't wait to try all the other reports.

I love the new horoscope feature the only thing that would make it even better would be the addition of Moon Void of Course info. HINT HINT HINT... I also have been playing with the synastry and relationship charts but can't understand what it all means yet. I could spend days reading the dictionary alone. So much to learn too little time. Thanks so much,

Newport, RI, USA --- Wednesday, September 29, 1999 at 07:52 Swiss time

Alois adds: We will look into it. It is little used in Europe - there is not even a term for 'void of course Moon' in German, imagine! I had extensive discussions about this with astrologers who are also translators. I would call it 'Mond auf leerer Bahn' (Moon on empty track).

Your site is great, as always! This is definitely the best astrological reference site I've found on the internet, not to mention you have great personality profiles as well... I like the way your new layout for charts is much more detailed, however, one thing that confuses me is that the new program doesn't distinguish between a square with an orb of 6 or 7 degrees, and an exact square, for example. Your last version of Astrolog created what I think is a less cluttered chart where the stronger aspects stood out clearly and contrasted nicely with the weaker aspects which were dimmer or dotted. Is there any way to alter the aspect lines, or maybe construct a chart with that old version of Astrolog?

great charts, very high quality. however, i'd really like to see the degrees and minutes of each of the houses listed on the chart itself, not just half of them listed off to the side of the chart. would it be possible to do this for the astral charts? it makes "seeing" aspects and possible transits easier and faster. really appreciate what you've done here. very thorough. even hindu charts!

GREAT! You have synastry charts and composite, this is great news!! BUT.....there are no aspects for synastry charts! PLEASE Can we have some, it'd be a great help. And, why not have a feature seeing transits for COMPOSITE charts so we can see relationship patterns, this would be excellent. Thanks, I hope we see these changes next, the current changes have been wonderful! Keep up the amazing work, team! N :)

I was born at 11:05 PM on July5,1933 in the USA. Ther was no daylight saving time at that time. Yet, I think your calculations do not take this into consideraton. If it does , how do I put this in. I tried 12:05AM July 6, 1933. Is this correct?

Francis Costello [ F*aol.com ]
Phila, USA --- Tuesday, September 28, 1999 at 14:10 Swiss time

Alois adds: You must enter the time as it was, i.e. 11:05 pm if the clock showed this time when you were born. Whether there was daylight savings time or not depends on the state and the city. In New York, for example, there was. Not what YOU BELIEVE matters here, but what WE KNOW.

Thank you so much for the new comparison, composite, and Davidson relationship charts and data sheets. I found all easy to generate & print(used the "shrink to fit" option) to get the perfect page fit for the data sheets. I've not seen all these charts before and it is very interesting. Today, 9/27/99, here in San Francisco, none of the natal + transit charts would take my birthdate correctly, it is 9/28/1939 & on the charts it would be 9/28/1999? Thought you might like to know because maybe there is a glitch? or a Y2K something? Did the same thing on a natal chart I finally tried. Again, felt you needed to know.

Alma Jean [ *earthlink.net ]
San Francisco, USA --- Tuesday, September 28, 1999 at 06:45 Swiss time

Alois adds: Transits and progressions are always done for 'today' and as today is the 28th Sept 1999, this is what came up. Happy birthday, by the way.

If you used the old cart entry form via the atlas, and you forgot the 'update timezone' button, then you always got all charts for 'today'.

the most exciting site on the web, and to be able to input comments and suggestions or ask questions makes the site very alive. this is an endearing service to all who visit the site. suggestion: that definitions of the chart types be included in the astro dictionary or simply be explained in a separate link. question: in the small format chart, pullen style, what is the colomn to the right of the colomn that gives the longitude of the planets?

darius [ *yahoo.com ]
boston, usa --- Tuesday, September 28, 1999 at 06:15 Swiss time

Alois adds: these are the latitudes of the planets (distance from ecliptic in degrees and minutes).

Int eh HQ charts, these and many other data are to be found on the additional tables which are offered with most charts as an additional option (link on top of chart display), in Adobe Acrobat/PDF format and therefore perfectly printable.

Thanks for this website. I only started today since a friend told me about you just last night. I read your daily horoscope and it feels fairly accurate in spirit and detail. However, I have been wondering what is the difference between a Koch chart and a Placidus one? When I do Koch my pluto and uranus are in the 4th house and when I do Placidus it is in the 5th house which is quite significant for me. which is better? Or more accurate, or whatever?

Thank you for providing the free chart. I am always interested in the different ways charts are interpreted by different people. I was wondering however, if you do relocation charts or astrocartography. I am very interested in learning how to do them myself, but I have been unable to find any books that instruct on these topics. I go have a few of Mr. Hand's books and have used them exstensively over the years. Most of them are breaking at the binding and are well worn in. I do astrology the "old-fashioned" way, using only and ephemeris. it isn't quite as exact as I'd like to get, but computers and I usually shy away from them. It goes along with my 16 degree Libra Part of Fortune. Once again, thank you for providing this service. It is a greatly needed asset to our lives.

Alois adds: You seem not to have looked through the list of free chart selections, or you would have seen astromaps. The term 'astro*cartography' is trademarked and we have been attacked by the holder of copyright for using it, so we do not use it.

relocation charts need currently to be made by changing the birth place while sticking to the same Universal time. Soon a new option will appear which makes it simpler.

I love the look and workings of this new update. Thanks so much for adding the synastry option.

RE: The new chart service 1. Why do you need my name to draw a chart? 2. Why do you need to know if I am male or female? For months I have enjoyed being able to use this service. However, for my own chart, I am afraid it is wrong when done by computer. A professional astrologer, Walden Welsh, calculated my ascendant to be 20 degrees Capricorn with Aquarius intercepted in the first house. Computer software puts it at 9 degrees. I am definitely NOT a sun-in-12th-house person. I'd would like to find a service that could calculate with more accuracy. Thank you for being here.

Pamela Suber
, America --- Saturday, September 25, 1999 at 18:08 Swiss time

Alois adds: The chart entry form will serve for everything, which will be done on our website in the future, i.e. also for order entry for reports. Some reports require a first name of the person to be inserted in the text, they just read better that way. You can write anything you like, you need not give your real name.

The sex is required for the same purpose. Many languages are very much gender-dependent in word-endings, e.g. in Italian, French or Spanish you cannot even say 'you are wonderful0' without knowing the sex of the person you speak to. Just for a chart drawing, the sex would not be required.

I have seen endless numbers of incorrectly computed horoscopes, and some people stick to them because they got used to them; you seem to belong to this group of people. Believe in the chart you like, but believe me: we know better how to compute a horoscope than 99.9% of astrologers in the world. I and my staff of 10 make their living with astrological computing services since up to 20 years, and we would not be what we are if we did not know our business.

I had lost my table of house and had been unable to do this chart, thanks to you it will be more accurate now.

Dear Alois, I think we have to invent a new language to describe what you do, the words that have been used over and over again to thank you and to comment on Astrodienst may be losing their impact, heaven forbid! The new chart entry format is easy to use, you have even anticipated what people will do wrong and allowed for it! The relationship, combination, composite and synastry options are clear and beautiful. Your talent, mind and skills are formidable - and all you needed was time and a glass of wine! Ah well ...

What a nice and welcome site. Since I have obtained my iMac just over a year ago I've not gotten around to obtaining IO-the only mac fomat CD program available -so coming upon this site is a godsend-don't worry I'm not doing any professional practice from your program's results, but I like to do my own returns etc. I am professional-just not at this juncture-as where I am doesn't supply enough interested parties, and I refuse to do it unless face to face with a client anyway. Do I think I could talk you into setting up a lunar return function here?. . . . one that would also incorporate precessed values. . .so I don't have to run to the Fagan-Bradley zodiac. . .and while you're at it maybe set up a harmonic function for solar and lunar returns sa as to be able to compute half and quarter year solar returns(enneads too, perhaps) and half and quarter lunars(tho that's less important). Thank you for your time. . .Pat Brown

Patrick R Brown [ *earthlink.net ]
Garden City LA, USA --- Saturday, September 25, 1999 at 14:17 Swiss time

Alois adds: Dear Pat, we European astrologers are much less technically minded than the typical american astrologer; most features you suggest do not exist in our current software.

Indeed I have been running a large astrological computer service now for 20 years, and never heard of someone wanting half and quarter solar returns. Also, I dare say that nobody in Europe does precession corrected transits - I consider them incorrect anyway. Either you go for a sidereal zodiac, however badly defined it may be, or you do tropical astrology following the rhythm of the Sun. I think one should not mix.

I think for some problems there will still be a market for astrology software installed in your PC. We are happy to limit our free service to 98% of the demand and let the other programmers still earn a bit for their living.

A very comprehensive site, with a great variety of charts - the best I've seen - in one place. Easy to navigate also.

I am currently studying astrology, and have become really fond of your service for looking at daily transits...I was excited to see your daily horoscope that includes actual transits for the day with a little description by Robert Hand, I was curious though...I've been entering my birthplace to gather information - is it better to enter the location that you are in now, or that of your actual birthplace. Say someone was from the US, but in Germany for a year - are the transits still felt in the same way? Or should one look at the transits in Germany - and compare them to the birthchart. Smile. Confused.

Bianca Pettis [ *aol.com ]
Minneapolis, USA --- Friday, September 24, 1999 at 00:09 Swiss time

Alois adds: The transits are not affected by this, they happen at a specific absolute time (Universal Time UT or Greenwich Mean Time GMT).$ The only thing which depends on your location is the time of the day at your location. Instead of reading exact transits times in expressed in UT, it is more convenient to find them expressed in your local clock time. The new data entry form online since 25th Sept does allow to set your location separately from the birth place. If you do this, you can get the daily horoscope with times given in your local time. Also solar return charts and other location-dependent chart will use this information.

I have been a fan and very frequent visitor of your site for over three years now. In the past year I recommended it to over 50 people! Thanks for providing such an invaluable service, and for adjusting your charts so that they can print out easier on letter-size paper. I just discovered that by reducing the chart size to 65% and changing the paper direction to landscape on my *printer* (and not the landscape option on the site), I can print out the Astromaps on legal-size (8.5" x 14") paper quite easily.

I love the new options, especially having all the info inputted on one screen. And I love the daily readings! They're wonderfully accurate, well-written, and will most likely garner a lot more traffic to your site!

I have one suggestion though--for some reason the aspect grid that comes up with the basic natal chart doesn't always print properly. Could you offer just the basic aspect grid as its own printing option? I know you have a midpoint aspect option, but it would be nice to have just the aspects by themselves. Especially for those of us who don't have color printers!

Thanks again for the wonderful service and keep up the great work! Famin

Isabel [ *tin.it ]
Parma, Italy --- Wednesday, September 22, 1999 at 20:48 Swiss time

Alois adds: We do not sell our own software, except the Swiss Ephemeris which is a toolbox for astrological programmers, not for end users.

We sell a few programs from other authors, one is SARASTRO by Peter Fraiss, an excellent astrological software, but only in German; the other is World of Wisdom, a little nice astrology program by Adrian Duncan, with good reports for natal and transits. WOW is bilingual, English and German.

The main product of Astrodienst are our astrological reports, mostly by Liz Greene. They are I think rightfully considered to be by far the best computerized astrological reports in the world. We sell a lot of them directly by mail order, but we also have about 40 partners in 25 countries who use our professional software to produce and sell these reports.

One of our partners is 'Astro Pony' in Milano, but many Italians order also directly from us in Switzerland.

As a company, we have been doing quite well over many years (I started Astrodienst in 1980). The Internet changes a lot in the business of electronically generated information, and we are working hard to play an important role in this field also in the future.

Dear Folks at Astordienst: I'd like to extend my thanks for your valuable site, and excellent selection of chart styles. This is the easiest site I've ever used, and very accurate. I'm particularly impressed with your daily horoscopes. For the week or so I've been looking them up, they've been very accurate. I have ordered astrological "year in advance" material from the internet before, and find it dissapointingly off target. Although it has been years since I studied astrology, I still have a fair understanding of it. I've had web charts done that confuse conjunctions with trines, and allow as much as a 15 degree difference in conjunctions. Sloppy. (And that is WITH an accurate birth time.)

The astrologer who does the daily horoscope at this site is much more accurate. Does the same person do the yearly calendar you offer?

Again, thanks for such a great, useful site! (And I like your new birth entry screen. One suggestion, in "place of birth" you don't specify city, and country. Should you?

Cusps 1, 2, 3, 10, 11, 12 are listed at the side below the list of planet positions. Cusps 4,5,6,7,8,9 are the same degrees but opposite signs. If you do not know the opposite signs from memory, look at the chart itself (you need to be able to read sign glyphs).

Thank you for the Education and opportunity to further my understanding of all you know and also of myself. Thank you once again...... and I'll be looking forward to hearing from you in the near future.

Hi, I am also interested in buying software. What is your "WOW" software? Is the program you use "Astro-log"? and do you offer it for sale? I'm interested in purchasing the program that you use and your atlas data base. Do you offer anything like that? Your site is very easy to use, fast and accurate. I feel like I should be buying the software from you to contribute to the expense. If you don't sell it now I think you should consider it, many people would probablly buy it from you. Thank you for such a wonderful ref. site, Bronwyn

Alois adds: Thank you for offering your support. We sell wonderful astrological report - the best there are in the world.

ASTROLOG is free software, and can be downloaded from the web, see our LINKS pages.

WOW is a small astrological application, not created by us, which does nice natal and transit reports.

Our online atlas and charting software is not a product for PC users, and it is not for sale. It is a complex networked database application running on our Unix servers.

How much would you charge me for a complete working copy of your astrology programs, and also the 'free' interpretation version software (that I would like to fill up with my own interpretations). Please E-Mail me and let me know

Alois adds: No, because people who use our service are usually not much younger than 6 or older than 120 years.

I am afraid we have no transit interpretation for someone who has has lived 2000 years and is about to celebrate his 8th Pluto return. There are not enough customers like that, so we cannot justify the effort of writing such rarely used material. Try again six years after the second coming!

Great site for new selfdiscoveries and understanding the role we play in this life.... I have no experience in astrology or the computer. Where can i find a dictionairy of all your symbols drawn so i can descramble this mystery? Example: What are the triangles and squares in the natal charts in bottom left corner? How do i read and understand the progress of life diagrams? Looking foward in learning astrology for the first time with U!

Valerie Billaud [ *raq.mboxdesign.com ]
L.A., USA --- Sunday, September 12, 1999 at 04:37 Swiss time

Alois adds: About the basic elements in a natal chart you can find information in the section Understanding Astrology. Many of the advanced chart types we offer however are tools used only in very specific schools of astrology. We usually developed those charts in cooperation with such an astrology school, back in he early 1980ies when people had no computers of their own. The members and clients of those astrology schools then ordered the charts from our service, and they had been taught how to read them. We do not have material to teach you that.

Reinhold Ebertin's "Life Diagrams" is such an example. Ebertin has published booklets in German describing those tools, but they are out of print and were never translated into English.

We have added many such chart types out of our 'software treasure box' to our free web service, because we hope some people will find them entertaining and interesting. We would very much welcome it if somebody from the audience would write a description and instruction manual, which we could add to our website.

I do like this pages and are going to come agen to see more later thang you for this page.

You must install Acrobat Reader on your computer, so that you are able to view some of our high quality output. if properly installed, Acrobat Reader operates directly within your Netscape or Microsoft Internet browser.

It is incredible what you can find out today about astrology and so quickly - of course you have had to do so much input beforehand! What interests me is the mystery of being born on the cusp. I have for years thought I was a so-called "sagi-cap" and have now found out that I am actually born true sagi! (My Father has managed to remember approximately my time of birth after so many years - long-term memory!) It is really interesting and absorbing to read all your research results and I really appreciate your work!

Well, if my former message here asking why you didn't show retrogrades was of any worth here then, I guess it is to remind others to doublecheck before they make a remark on this page. Ok, the "r" for retrograde was a bit dinky. But I suppose a triple pisces like me also tends to be a bit blind. I always give people the link to your site when they need a birthchart because this is the one place where they can get it all. We were both born in Berlin, Germany. We now both reside in different parts of California, USA. Our question is this: When charting a solar return on your wonderful site (we are addicted), you do not give an option for change of residence. Is this because it has no relevance to the solar return? If it does effect the return, then should we enter our birth information as if we were born where we now reside? Thank you so much for your response and, again, kudos on a brilliant site!

Pamela & Heidi [ *aol.com ]
Temecula, United States --- Friday, September 3, 1999 at 08:26 Swiss time

Alois adds: Some astrologers use the birth place with Solar Returns, some use the place of residence. We do not currently offer the choice of place of residence, because the web user interface programming required for such an option is quite tedious. It will coma, as well as synastry!

For now, the get a reloctaed Solar return, you must start with a relocated natal chart. Proceed like this:
Make a normal natal chart, and write down the Universal time as shown on the clock in the timezone map, or indicated on the chart itself.
Also make a not of the Moon position (it is most sensitive to time).
Redo your natal, but now with the relocation place, i.e. San Francisco. As a birth time you must enter such an hour that the Universal Time becomes the same as the one you wrote down in the first step. You may have to adjust the date by one day.
In the resulting relocated chart check the Moon position, it must be exactly the same as in the original natal chart.
Now you can make a Solar return for the relocated chart.

Just tickling your site and found it has great depth. Created my chart which I do not know yet how to interpret - but I never did know my exact time of birth except that it was very early in the morning. I have chosen 6:30AM - would my horoscope be very different for say 5:30 or 7AM? I will be visiting often - what else can you expect from a Virgo. Thanks for sharing - the more you give the more you get. It is one of secrets of life.

Rosmund [ *istar.ca ]
Toronto, Canada --- Friday, September 3, 1999 at 05:30 Swiss time

Thank you for our free charts (wheel style). My husband thinks they're "cool". I only wish I knew the birth time of my parents, who were born in 1894 & 1901 in the British Isles.

I had my chart done some months back,I found this web and wanted to check out it's accurcy. I was told that my chart revealed massive change in my life and postion within the public eye. Someone who bares postion will be of significance and will be a love intrest. Is this true? Great web site!
