I just visited your site recently and when I calculated my chart, it said that my rising sign is Scorpio, but most of the books that I have read on astrology that use the time of birth say that my ascendent is Saggitarius. Is there any other way that I can find out which is my real ascendent?

karim meeks [ k_*hotmail.com ]
new york, united states --- Wednesday, March 31, 1999 at 02:35 Swiss time

I have been interested in astrology all my life. This is the second time my chart has been done by a computer. Both times the computer says aquarius rising, when in fact have the traits of pisces rising. Your computer interpreted Aquarius at 26 degrees. Could it be that I am close enough to have traits of both, or so close that it is too close to call? Please let me know. I'm definitely triple water Scorpio sun, pisces rising, cancer moon. Thanks

Luna Bluewolf [ LoneB*aol.com ]
Charlotte, USA --- Tuesday, March 30, 1999 at 22:49 Swiss time

Alois adds: if you insist on that, you have to adjust your birth time. We cannot shift the skies for you. A 26 degree Aquarius is very much an Aquarius and not a Pisces.

Leo/Virgo cusp 1964, Scarborough UK. Unsure of which time of morning for birth. Is the 3:51 am time change from Leo to Virgo that 'cut & dry' or is there some amount of overlap? Thanks for any feedback

It was very useful to be able to actually get a chart for free. However, I don't understand what CHI and NOD stand for on my chart or my daughter's. Can someone let us know what these mean? Also, what is the midheaven? And how can you find out what yours is?

Jennifer Enright [ *aol.com ]
Mississauga, Canada --- Monday, March 29, 1999 at 18:11 Swiss time

Alois adds: CHI stands for the asteroid Chiron, NOD stands for the Moon's norther node, and Midheaven is listed as the cusp of the 10th house. It is also called Medium Coeli (MC).

I had my chart done when I was 11 and am truly surprised yours is identical! You have taken what took hours to put together and simplified it tremendously. The funny thing with my chart is that everything appears above the horizon...this was thought a little spooky by some but I have yet to get an intelligent reason why. Perhaps buried in your site somewhere I'll find an answer.

this site, the charts, everything, as far as i can tell, is pretty accurate. if you supply the right information, it will tell you the way things are. i've had my chart done before, and the one that showed through this site was the same. personally, since this is free, i wasn't sure the natal charts, or any of it, would be real "on the money," you know? i thought it would be a "messing around, just for entertainment" site. but anyway. good place to come to. yeah. um... keep up the good work! oy.

I'm not sure what to think about this site or any other site. I have visited 3 and every chart is different. I have the same "freeware" you used to construct this chart yet my version is also somewhat different. I have always used the same day, month, year, time and location. I'm not too sure what to think about astrology programs or freeware/shareware. Maybe doing everything yourself is always the right way to go.

I just found your site. It made me think back to the middle 1970's, when I was first trying to program chart calculation. I had to start from the basic equations! It was fun, but time-consuming. I was stumped about house calculation, thinking I would have to go to the medieval texts, until I ran across a cheat-sheet produced by Rob Hand, who was doing the same thing at about the same time. Now, well over 20 years later, I stumble on your excellent site, and get what appear to be excellent results by very much evolved means. It's amazing... Thanks!

I notice your program recognizes Daylight Saving Time now, ie for 1999, but it doesn't seem to recognize it for previous years.

I was refered to your page to find the lat & longitude for an area from which I observe meteors. While I am not sure of the true nature of your site, as I have only used the "timezone" page, I noticed you stated the sun was in Virgo on my birthdate. In actuality, the sun was in Leo on my birthdate. Due the the procession of the equinox and various calendrical changes over the century, it has been about two thousand years since the Sun was in Virgo on Aug 28. If this is an astrological site, I undertsand your usage of the older dates as it is still widespread. But why can't astrologersbe brave and simply admit the truth that most people simply aren't born under the sign they are told they are born under. It would certainly restore a smidgen of credibility to the profession.

Kim S. Youmans [ *pineland.net ]
Swainsboro, Georgia, USA --- Wednesday, March 17, 1999 at 01:21 Swiss time

Alois adds: You are confusing fixed star constellations and coordinates measured in the tropical zodiac. Western astrology does not use fixed star constellations as a reference system, but the tropical zodiac starting at the vernal equinoctium. It shares this reference system with astronomy, where ecliptic longitude relative to the true equinox of date is a commonly used way of expressing planetary coodinates.

Instead of using degree numbers from 0 to 359, the 360 degrees of this circle are divided into 12 equal sections of 30 degrees each, called the Sun signs. They represent the annual movement of the Sun through the ecliptic. The vernal equinox has migrated due to precession into the sidereal constellation of Pisces, so that tropical zodiac sections ("sun signs") and sidereal constellations are nearly one sign shifted relative to each other.

There are astrologers (siderealists) which use the old sidereal zodiac. Most Hindu astrologers belong to this group. From the tropical perspective, they are the ones who ignore precession. Our chart selection options do also offer sidereal charts.

thanks for the great help. i have been trying to figure my chart, but had trouble, but your chart gave me the information i needed.

I noticed as I requested both my son's chart and mine that on the time zone options only "standard time" is listed. I was born in April and Drew in August, we both fall within "Daylight Savings" time, (abbreviation: EDT,SDT,PDT) does this program automatically figure that in by the month? If so, I not absolutly sure that Michigan used Dayling Savings time in 1957, and for people born in Indiana, one of three states that doesn't use it, it wouldn's be correct. .....or it's correct for them now, and incorrect for nearly everyone else born between Mar. and Oct. in the United States and Canada. If you are unfamiliar with what this whole reference is about, ask me, and I'll explain it.

Because this site is so helpful to me, but I am an amateur and DST is not factored into the wonderful charts you make available, I need help for the upcoming time chage that pushes the time ahead by one hour. Is it this simple: just enter 2 pm for an actual (non-DST) 1pm time? Thank you.

James Day
Chattanooga, TN, USA --- Monday, March 15, 1999 at 19:40 Swiss time

Alois adds: no, it is much simpler: just enter the time which a clock on the wall will have shown. DST is automatically considered if it applies.

To the guy who was wondering about whether he is a scorpio or a sagittarius: If your ascendent is in the first degree of scorpio, you are as scorpio as you can get. The first degree means 0.01 degrees. Degrees are the essential unit of astrology. Once you are within a degree, it no longer matters whether you are 0.01 or 0.59. Don't read for sagittarius when you consider your ascendent. Also, general readings don't take into account intercepted houses, so two houses with the same sign can mess up a general reading. You have to be creative and read for Aries on both the fifth and sixth house cusps. Mars will be the ruler of both houses. And somewhere you have an intercepted house whose ruler is the planet ruling another sign. Think it out! Good luck.

As always - Thank You for this page. I am right now sitting by the computer looking at the chart for this very moment, looking at the sun touching the Ascendent, and at the same time seeing it rise over ther horizon - I'm living 40 meters from the lake Waettern, with a marvellous view from my window. During updating the chart I was playing with the reality and the picture of it. Now a question for anybody. Are there anybody knowing how to connect a computers clock to pictures of charts like this? And for the webmaster at Astrodienst online, is it allowed or/and possible to make a nice graphic to the software that makes these charts, and connect it to the clock I'm talking about? It would be the best of all screen savers - a picture of our space, moving, or changing e.g. every 5 minutes. I'm a commercial artist, drawer and painter, as well as photographer, and willing to spend time making the graphics if this project should be possible to make a reality. Thank U all, and again, I just love this dienst! (Born in sweden Febr 16, 12.50 1945) http://www.angelfire.com/tn/tecknare/index.html Stefan

Have been studying astrology on my own for some 24 years now but have only recently started exploring the web to make contact with other astrologers. This is a truly remarkable site! Free Charts! I thought I was the only one handing those out to those expressing an interest to me. Punched in my data and printed the chart you calculated just to see if it matched my own. House cusps are exact within 1 degree; so very reassuring to know that the charts I am doing for others are very accurate. Am now ready to raise astro lore to another level. Presently studying the nature of aspects per se, as points in their own cycle as put forth by Tierney in Dynamics of Aspect Analysis.

I'm a double Scorpio w/natal sun * 0.53 Scorpio, yet my 1st house cusp begins * 23.3 Scorpio. My progressed sun is now * 16.35 Sagittarius. I have Aries on 5th AND 6th house cusps, so when I read all the literature on Scorpio it says that transiting Jupiter has just entered my 6th house of work & health, etc. etc. But it has really just entered the 5th! So do I actually read Sagittarius to get a grasp on the effect on me?! Also, Pluto is still in my 1st house, not the 2nd of financial matters as all the readings say! Yet being Scorpio,it is still my ruling planet. How do I blend these influences to get a true picture of the effect these planets have in my life?! Do I have a chance to successfully gamble now that it's really in the 5th? And children's interests, etc., am I just now really reaping the benefits I've been reading about for Scorpios for the past year who have earlier cusps?! Any comment you would have time to make would clarify these points and would be deeply appreciated! Thank you for your wonderful site, even tho my scant knowledge is mired in some confusion.

I'm really grateful to you for the free chart. I have been trying to learn how to do a chart on my own and always seem to run into a snag--either the explanations in the books weren't clear enough or the planetary charts didn't include the years I needed or something. But now that I have the chart, hopefully I can use the books I have to learn to interpret. Thanks.

You cannot imagine what a relief this site is to a serious student.I donot know who supports it but I am sure that a lot of us would like to help if possible

Dear Sirs: I asked for my natal chart at your site, and was surprised with the result. As far as i know, i've got intercepted houses in the 12th and 6th axis, interesting Aries and Libra in them. The chart your site displayed didn't showed this, niethe the rigth location of my planets and aspects?, what kind of astrology are you giving people to base their lives upon?, this misunderstandig really worries me. At least, coul you tell me more about intercepted houses, and black moon in a natal chart? Thank you very much.

Hello. I am a 23 year old Scorpio with a Scorpio ascendant and a Taurus moon. (I'm not exactly sure why I feel that's relevant, but it seemed to be, so...) I think this site is wonderful. I've been studying astrology intensively for 6 years now, and it's wonderful to be able to have a chart cast so quickly after learning the basics. Thank-you for such a helpful site!
