First of all, wow. This site makes it a lot easier to figure out what is going on. Thank you. I have one question, however. In the dictionary it says you have to make an adjustment for daylight savings time. I am wondering If I need to subtract it myself in the birthtime or if Astrodienst already does it. The reason I ask is I am unsure if my birthdate falls within Daylight savings time, and I am wondering if there is a book that I can purchase that can clarify when and where DST needs to be accounted for. Thank you for your time.

Ref: your Gauguelin (spelling!) sector chart. Shouldn't the descendant be equidistant(in time and angle) from the MC as the ASC (giving a 'true local' horizon line at time of birth). I recognize convention places the DSC 180 degrees from the ASC, but Gauguelin didn't do it that way.

Alois: I don't think our spelling of Michel Gauquelin is wrong; the charts are like one of his research colleagues, Prof. Suitbert Ertel of university of Göttingen, wanted them. About the Descendant not being opposite the Ascendant you must surely be joking. It is not the 1st of April today.

The second item in this group is 'Moo', which is the Moon. The numbers besides Moo are it degree, sign, and minute/second. The names of the signs are abbreviated with three latters, as the planets names are. I think you will be able to work out your Moon sign from there.

George [ *hotmail ]

Alois adds: We would need to change the input form considerably for this. However, you can do progressions the traditional way: count the days from your birth date forward, one day for each year of life. Enter the progressed date instead of your real birthday, and you get your progressed charts.

Do you know that there are two cities in Texas that have the name Garland. You have neither in your laditude and longitude map chart. Also Garland, (Dallas County) Texas is a city of about 180,000 people.

I love astrology, I studied it for years and I used to cast horoscopes for people and this was in the days of no computers and everything was done by hand. I find that astrology is somewhat like religion there are a lot of different ideas about the same thing, which is okay. I have met a lot of astrologers and they are just people some are egomaniacs and some very shy and reserved. Some approach it like a set of canned rules and reguations while others go at it from a totally psychic interpretation. Some tell only the good, some both the good and the bad, and some fatalists emphasize the bad too much. Some tell you nothing except a bunch of repitious sounding nonsense because they know nothing to begin with. Never the less it is a lot of fun and provides a lot of useful information, it is almost as important to learn how to read a prepared horoscope that someone has done for you as the horoscope its self. Because everyone has a little bit different slant even programmed horoscopes reflect the programmer.

I like your site it is a lot of fun. Dennis Garwitz Sr. Garland, Texas

Thank you for the Astro Dictionary and its "see alsos". These are more informative than users of a free service have any right to expect. I also used your site to cast a sidereal birth chart and find that it seems to suit the subject better than the western standard, in some respects. Does anyone know of a book that discusses sidereal the way tropical is explained, or that compares and contrasts them? I have two of Mr. Hand's books, use them a great deal, and wonder if he has written about sidereal.

James Day

Alois adds: there are very few siderealists in Europe and I do not know any. I think you should visit a well stocked esoteric bookshop to get an overview of available books. Robert Hand is a tropical astrologer by heart, as far as I know him. Of course all Hindu astrologers are siderealists.

I am writing for the second time and I tried to find in the Old Feedback Files my earlier comment but I could not find it. Anyway, Your page is a great service to the cause of astrology and to its students.
However, I would like to point out that the Fee Chart as well as the Astrolog files, which can be copied, are not ERROR-FREE.
I am a student of astrology myself and have cast my own horoscope exact to the seconds. Different computer programmes on astrology have confirmed that also.
But when I use your programme, is somehow gives a bit wrong information. Moreover the position of planets are not correct. How for instance, can the Moon be a little more than 7 degrees in Pisces (In Sidereal zodiac) at 8.17 am on Nov. 26,1963 at Rawalpindi (longitude 73:3 East (not 73:4 E, as your atlas puts it) and 33:36 North latitudue?
Similarly, it gives wrong positions of other planets (which are not at all affected whether one uses tropical or sidereal zodiac provided the required Hindu Ayanamsa is subtracted from tropical positions.
The Ascendant degree and consequently other house cusps are not correct either. So will some one look into it?
And should I expect a feedback?
Sincerely Raja

Raja Zulfikar Ali [ *paknet2.ptc.pk ]
Rawalpindi, Pakistan --- Wednesday, November 18, 1998 at 11:06 Swiss time

Alois adds: My feedback is a bit arrogant: we know that you are wrong and we are right. We happen to know very well how to compute planetary positions. You may want to visit our Swiss Ephemeris pages to get an impression of our level of professionality in this field.

But besides this, the data you quote are wrong, I am afraid:
The online chart in the SIDEREAL zodiac on our webserver for the date and place given above (Rawalpindi, 26 Nov 1963, 8.17 AM) gives a Moon position of 1 degree Pisces, 35'26 seconds. I don't know how you come to quote another value.
Did you misread a 1 (one) for a 7 (seven)? Or did you forget to press the 'update timezone' button? What date and time does the chart graphics have in its upper right corner?

A very minor detail: 1 minute of geographical longitude corresponds to approximately 1.5 kilometers in Rawalpindi. This is a large city with a diameter of something like 20 km. Also, a change of longitude by 1' corresponds to a change of birth time by 4 seconds. Only if the birth time is that precisely given, you need to worry about minutes of longitude in the geographical position. An astrologer who knows to compute charts to the second might want to be aware of these relations.

Hi there. Louis what are the chances of putting in an option for transits to your already superb site. Could you not do it on the same basis as for the progressed chart. If not which is the best book to buy so I can work them out myself. regards Liz

Liz Andre [ *n.coast.lia.net ]
Ballito, South Africa --- Monday, November 16, 1998 at 15:08 Swiss time

Alois (not Louis) adds: Running a chart for 'now' will give you the transit positions. A combined graph is probably possible, but I have at the moment no time to investigate the obscure Astrolog 5.30 options. You can download the Astrolog software and the Helpfile (see our LINKS page) and run these charts locally on your computer. There are many more options in Astrolog than we can offer - we would confuse 99% of the vistors by giving too many choices.

In our new chart service which will go online early next year the transit charts will certainly be an option.

To read transit charts, I would always recommend Robert Hand's Planets in Transit.

Alois adds: Dear Dulcie, if we started giving free personal chart readings in this feedback area I would have to employ a room full of astrologers just to serve the free website. I think any decent astrology book will explain the Sun square Neptune aspect.

If a feedback entry is not answered, it usually means that we have no time to answer it, and mostly it is questions like 'tell me about my future' etc. This is not what our website is for. It is a tool for astrologers.

Incredibly, I was directed to your remarkable and generous site by an astrological software salesman!! He said you were direct competition, but he also honoured you with many compliments. Thanks very much for providing free information and guidance. Living in Wales most of each year, I was delighted to find so many Welsh locations in your listing. Blessed Beings! Amber

I, too, really appreciate your site for the ease and great price with which I can get charts on my loved ones! I am in the middle of my Saturn return, and can't seem to find much information on this time of a person's life (age 28-31)...do you have any suggestions as to a book or webpage I can check out that will help me shed some light on both the importance of this time and ideas for dealing with it? Thanks again! JAH

Alois adds: Robert Hand writes in 'Planets in Transit' about the Saturn return (and you would find this text in the report 'Transits of the Year' if you had ordered it from us):

This is one of the most important times in your life. A major cycle of experience is closing, and great changes are about to take place. How great these changes are depends largely on what you have been doing with your life over the past several years. Have you been living as you feel you should or as you think others want you to? If you have been doing the latter, Saturn will have a greater impact.

The transit of Saturn conjunct natal Saturn occurs about every twenty-nine years. The first such transit occurs now that you are about twenty- nine.

In the year before this transit, many aspects of your life have begun to change. Relationships have changed or ended, and you may have changed your residence or your job; you have been dominated by an urgent feeling that if you don't do everything you have always wanted to do or felt that you should, you will never have another chance. And now, at about twenty-nine, you will feel that a substantial portion of your life has passed and that you had better get on with making it all work. If your marriage is unsatisfactory but you have been making the best of it, you will examine that relationship even more thoroughly now and may decide to end it. Certainly you will have to change it substantially. The same is true of any other aspect of your life that you have tolerated but not found very rewarding.

Consciously or unconsciously, you are pruning your life of everything that is not relevant to what you really are as a human being. If this process is not happening consciously, you may experience a sense of loss for the elements of your life that are coming to an end now. However, do not dwell upon these losses, for they are necessary in order to clear the decks for the major period of action in your life. You should roll with the punch and voluntarily let go of these elements. If you try to hold on, you may be somewhat successful, but twenty-nine years from now the second Saturn return will be much more difficult. Then you will be more firmly established on paths that are inappropriate for you.

This is a time of endings and new beginnings. If you have built your life up to now around activities that are inappropriate for you, it will be a period of crisis. If you have been doing what you should in previous years, this transit will simply mark a time of solidification and the beginning of new phases of activity. It is this transit that makes people over thirty different from those under thirty because the Saturn return is one of the most maturing of all transits.

As is true for most computerized charts, this one is incorrect for the noon hour vs. the midnight hour. For example, I was born at 12:26 in the afternoon, but I know my moon is in Pisces, not Cancer as this chart indicates. Furthermore, the moon did not go from 9Pisces at 11:59 am, jump to Cancer at noon, then jump back to 10Pisces at 1:00 pm. You may want to adjust your program if possible.

Shawn Smith [ *aol.com ]
Lexington, KY, USA --- Tuesday, November 10, 1998 at 19:57 Swiss time

Alois adds: You must be confusing something. I checked our logfile and found that you once entered 12[noon] 26 min, which is probably your correct birth time, another time 12[midnight] 26 min which is 12 hours off. Also, are you sure you pressed the UPDATE TIMEZIONE button each time you entered a new birth time?
Still another time, you requested a progressed chart, not a natal chart; of course this will display a different moon position.

I would just like to say thank you very much for reading my birth chart. Iam also writing ,because Ive had my birthchart ,read in the Uk and on that chart according to the coordinates the latitude is:53:42:00 North and longtitude:001:38:00 W and the time-zone is:-01 .My birthdate is 16th of October 1964. And I was born at 15:50pm.(equal house system) your chart is different to the one Ive already got in fact quite a lot different. Iam wondering that maybe, she has not got the coordinates correct and your chart is maybe more accurate. hope you can clarify this for me. many, many thanks Paul

Alois adds: I can only state that our chart is certainly correct if you entered the correct date and time, and pressed the UPDATE TIMEZONE button before you went to the chart.

If a chart prepared by someone else shows a different Ascendant, for example, that person will have made an error. Many people erecting charts do make errors. This is one of the reasons why companies like Astrodienst florish since 1980. We are reliable, knowledgable and accurate.

Absolutley magnificent service!! Have recently rekindled an interest in humanistic astrology and found your site through a link at one Tobias Ferber's homepage (who incidentally looks spookily like me when I had long hair ... maybe I was him in a previous life in a parallel universe:o). I have started using Astrolog 5.3 as you are and was perturbed to read that Astrolog doesn't do solar return charts - is this something we should ask Walter Pullen to include or is it impossible because of program design problems or what? I thought it was a pretty standard chart - I wouldn't start my year without it! Once again thanks heaps, your site saves me having to own bookshelves full of atlases!

I just wanted to say that I am truly grateful for this site!! This program has given us and opportunity to construct charts and learn more about about Astrology. I've always been fascinated with this subject and have taken the time to learn more about it. I started to become really interested in it 4 years ago. For those of you who are starting out, you really need to study the Glymps (symbols) for each "Sign" to truly understand it!! I noticed that you were getting alot of feedback on the "Arabic Parts" so I'm putting in some URL's to go to for that information:
1) www.-personal.umich.edu/~pfa/dreamhouse/attic/lots/
2) www.panplanet.com/academy/library/lib.html
they will tell you how to calculate them yourself very easily!! I love this site ,,,synastries would be nice and hope to see that in the future!! Thank you! ***Donna Wilson (Sag Sun & Cancer Moon)

Thanks for your response. South Bend, IN is, in fact, on Eastern Standard Time, also! MI does change to Daylight Savings Time during the summer, whereas South Bend, IN (and many of the cities in IN) does not. . . I hope this is of some help to you to keep your listings accurate. My original concern is that the way I learned to "eye-ball" charts puts me at an Aries Ascendant, which I feel fits me better than the Pisceas. Also, the houses seem to correspond to my life in the "Aries" chart. I am at a loss because this also applies to all my family's charts as well! Other people's charts that I have done in this manner, who are born from other areas, seem to be very close to what I come up with just eye-balling the charts!! I'm confused!!! Thanks again for any help!

This site proves your innate generosity and humanitarian task with regards to astrology. I always refer "first" to your Astrodienst on line before using my other programs of astrology. Concerning your progressed charts, I consider them superior to the solary returns offered with other programs actually on the market. Is it the reason why your site does not give access to the solary returns? Again thank your for your help.

Mireille [ *ican.net ]

Alois adds: No, we value the solar return. The problem is that the ASTROLOG program we use for the online chart service cannot do a Solar Return chart in a reasonable manner. Soon we will change the software and include Solar returns.

What a wonderful sight!, but I seem to have a problem: I am just beginning to study astrology. When I enter my birth information, my chart appears with the ASC and MC in one sign off from what I believe is right. . . when I alter the "city" to one that is 10 minutes away and on the same time as my own, the chart appears to be what I believe it should be. The info. I am submitting is 11/26/59 13:44 Niles, MI. The alternate city being South Bend, IN. (again, we have always been on the same time except for the summer). I would appreciate any help you can give me as to the correct chart. Thank You Very Much!

I love your site. I was able to see my progressed chart at this site which was very exciting for me. I have one question that I have not been able to find an answer to. If the vertex is a sensitive relationship point having to do with fate, what does someone with saturn on my vertex mean, since saturn also has to do with fate? Was this a previous father figure? Or is this someone I hurt in the past, or hurt me in the past? As you can see I'm a little confused. Thanks for any help.

Well, I just want to say that Astrodienst has been a huge lifesaver. On August 21, 1998, I had a very profound experience that began at the moment of the solar eclipse (which I didn't know was taking place at the time). I won't go into details, but let me say that it was probably one of the biggest life-altering experiences I've ever had. At the time I was really into astrology, but didn't know how ignorant I was to its workings. After the eclipse, I went into a personal crisis where I plunged myself into learning all I could about astrology - I bought an ephermis and book of tables and worked and worked and it was turned out to be impossible for me to erect a chart! I was going nuts! Then, I found Astrodienst and my life was saved. I mean, I didn't even know that degrees had anything to do with it and they explain so much! I use your system everyday and I thank you so much for putting this online, whoever did this. I'm now deeply into astrology and at this point (I'm a Pisces-Sun/Gemini-Moon, so my mind changes a lot) I want to dedicate my life to spreading it across America because most people here see it has bogus. I'm already starting to write weekly horoscopes for my university's paper. Anyway, Astrodienst has definitely affected me in a tremendously positive way and I just wanted to say thanks! Andrew

Dear Alois, I just sent in my feedback a few minutes ago, saying how lucky I feel to have found this site. Then I read the comments by other people, and I have a question. The astrology program I use asks for time in terms like GMT, British, Central Standard Time, etc., and when I looked up Edinburgh I was expecting it to say Greenwich Mean Time and instead it said Civil Time. Since I'm an amateur, how do I translate Civil Time? And how do I find the time if it's a place where I haven't a clue what time standards may be used there, such as Bombay? If you could e-mail me privately, I would be grateful. Thanks, Veleka

Veleka Gray [ *starnetusa.com ]

Alois adds: Civil time is the time a clock on the wall (or wherever) shows. At some times in the past military installations have used a different time standard than the normal populations and this was called 'military time'. Civil time is what civilians use.

What a fabulous, fabulous, fabulous site! I've been a customer of ACS since the early 70's, and your work is always perfection. I would have expected no less from this site. Such a godsend. Thank you. I'm sending the URL to all the astrologers I know.
