This website is a godsend for someone like me who is an amateur and likes to experiment, mainly because there are few astrologers in this geographic area. It is much appreciated.
I referred a friend to this site because I have seen some material on VOC moon in the natal chart somewhere and thought it might be here. She got no response to her question, which saddens me because good counsel is needed for such charts, and she wants to know what to do about a life "going nowhere". Is there an astrologer who specializes in this kind of problem whom I might contact?
Some recent Guestbook messages I might be able to answer in part. Robert Hurtz Granite wrote a book listing and explaining Arabic parts ancient and modern. There is another book about the sabian symbols, all 360, and a USA astrology website providing short versions of these for the day or hour a visitor enters.

My wife and I were recently blessed with a new baby. He was born 27.10.98 in Basel at 07.06 pm. I ordered one of your chart reports and by mistake input 07.15 pm as the time. Will this be significant enough to have a somewhat wrong report? Should I order a new report with the right time?

Neither the sign of the ascendant nor the MC sign do change between
7:06 and 7:15 in Basel at that date.
Therefore there will be no change in the report and you should not order
a new one.
This is a very usefull & interisting site,I get

Hi, I have to say I am very impress by your site the way it is built and how simple it is to
go trough it.
I have my chart Thank you but the time is approx. 1 hour!? But I will have to wait to see
the result because I am in a very dark and difficult time zone of my life presently. So it
affect me financially! But because everything who goes down have to go up again I am
sure that the day will come!
In the mean time I have Bubbles daily and weekly comments and even if I am not
convince about this I have to say he is a great source of inspiration most of the time.
So it was more a message than a comment but Thank you for your time!

I see some people are very sassy when they demand your information. Sigh!
It's a really nice site you have. I tried a few cities but they didn't come up. I was wanting to see if my L & L. matches yours. Which I think will be much more accurate.
It is an Island off the North Western coast of Ireland. The name is Arranmore, county Donegal, Ireland. The closes town is a sea port
called Barton or Burton. I've always heard it said as burtonport.
Thanks you for offering the universe such nice information. I've been an Astrologer for 30 + years. It was a lot of work back then to do a chart. With your help and many others...Well.. You make it a piece of cake.
Thanks again.

Alois adds: It is called 'Aran Island' and does not seem to have a town
on it. Our atlas does not contain islands, rivers, lakes and other 'extended'
geographical features, only town or village names.
I looked up the island in my printed Britannica atlas, and added it to the
web atlas as an exception. You can now search for 'aran island'.
I was unable to find any place named 'burton' or 'barton' nearby on the map.
Must be very small. The nearest I found is Dungloe.
Again I want to thank you for providing this excellent service on the net. Also thank you for adding koch houses so quickly.I was wondering if you could offer koch houses on the progressed & other featured charts. Also I noticed you have included The Part of fortune in one of your options. I have been all over the web looking for formulas for the other parts. (death, marriage, spirit etc.) It would be great if you would offer the calculations for the other arabic parts on this site too. Also solar & lunar returns would be nice. Any ways thanks for providing the best site on the net to calculate charts. Keep up the good work-Ranen

Herzlichen Gruss

Love the site, I have two questions:
1. I was born on 5th March 1982 at 2:00am in Norwich, England. Now, I feel that I am a Sagittarius rising/ascendant and have had this confirmed as being so by your homepage and by the book 'OLD MOORES 1998, DAILY ASTRAL DIARY: PISCES.' (published by Foulsham in 1997), but the book 'Collins Pocket Reference: Atrology' (published by HarperCollinsPublishers in 1996) has me down as a Capricorn rising I certainly don't look like one. Who is right?
2.My mother was born on 22nd February 1951 at 2:00am? in Camberwell, England. I feel that she is a Scorpio rising and have had this confirmed by the book 'OLD MOORES...' (as stated above in question 1), but this is not so in 'Collins Pocket...' (as in question 1 above), and in this homepage. She looks like a Scorpio rising, I am confused!
Please help, Thanks, Jane.
P.S.I'm sorry if this rather long message gets confusing!

please help - i'm thoroughly confused! i was born in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on the 11th of Dec. 1981
at 4.20 a.m. i would really like to know if the timezone you used back then for Malaysia has changed or not. malaysia's time is now about half - an hour quicker than it was when i was born. can you tell me if that has any significance whatsoever, because it makes a difference in the house placements of my planets, especially Saturn. i cannot ascertain whether it is in the twelfth or eleventh house, and it really troubles me. and also - do you think there is the slightest chance that your computer could miscalculate the positions of the planets? according to the chart i set up, my moon is in gemini but other books i have consulted say it is in cancer and i'd really like to know for sure, because i feel cancer suits me better. finally i think your site is lovely and it's been a lot of help to me. thank you so much.
Hsu Shi Wen [ *tm.net.my ]
kuala lumpur, malaysia --- Wednesday, October 28, 1998 at 16:12 Swiss time
Alois adds: Local astrologers in Malaysia will tend to use the sidereal
system originating from Hindu astrology; all planets are shifted by
approximately one sign in this system versus the western tropical zodiac.
For timezones, our database uses what is correct, and our information
about timezone history in most countries of the world is extensive. I see
no reason to doubt our data for 1981 in Malaysia.
What can I say that others have not said..I think this site is wonderful...my previous software completely ignored the southern hemisphere!

I was entirely disappointed to discover that the progressed charts which I drew up on your site did not contain the progressions for the asteriods other than Chiron. I would be grateful to obtain this information.
Do you know where -- on line or elsewhere -- I might obtain an asteroidal ephemeris?
Many thanks.
Harriett Tyson [ *dixie-net.com ]
Holly Springs, MS, USA --- Monday, October 26, 1998 at 05:47 Swiss time
Alois adds: You can do it easily this way: If you want progressions for
your 44th birthday, for example, you add 44 days to your birthdate. E.g.
March 7 becomes March 51, which must be expressed as April 20.
You enter
this new (progressed) date as if it was a natal chart, and what you get
is the progressed chart. You have now all the selections of chart types
for your progressed chart available, including the version with asteroids.
The other option is to download the freeware software ASTROLOG and use
it on your computer to do all the calculations you need.
Please go to our LINKS page and continue from there.

My suggestion is to show the ascendant (rising) on the actual chart. I know that it is shown before the chart is drawn, but I print out charts for friends and they want to see their asc., also it would be useful to have an area to type in a name prior to printing.
I have given your address to many others to visit your site, including everyone in my class.

Alois adds: Thank you for the feedback, Danielle. The Aszendant is shown in the
chart graphics twofold: It is the zodiacal sign where the horizontal line
intersects on the left side of the chart. You need to understand the
zodiac glyphs to read this bit of information.
On the tabular listing to the right, the Aszendant is of course nothing else
than what is listed as '1st house:'. Here the sign is abbreviated with
the first three letters and hope everbody understands this.
Later this year we will completely exchange the chart engine for the free
charts; we plan to add the name feature as well, so that all charts
can be made to contain the name of a person.
I was quite pleased to discover that you even had Carbonear, Newfoundland, Canada listed. It is where I was born and I thought that since it is such a tiny place, it wouldn't be in your database. I know that Daylight Savings Time was not always in use in all part of the U.S., although I think it is now. So I don't know if War Time was used throughout the entire U.S. either.
Also, your in filling in the info for my chart, it says use "civil" time. Does this mean that I should ignore the War Time and go back to Standard Time?

Alois adds: You can always search with the setting 'Whole world' but
add the country code "SAFR" after a comma with your city name, e.g.
jo,safr
will deliver all cities starting with 'jo' in South Africa. This can be
done for all countries - there is no need to provide a very long country
selection list. Other big countries like Brazil, India, France etc. do also
not have a special list entry. Why should 'The whole world' not be good enough?
Once you have seen any place in a specific country listed, you can learn
the country code from this listing and use it next time to search only
in this country.
Not all the country codes we use in the current atlas implementation
are intuitive. We are in the process of moving to ISO country codes but
have some problems because US state abbreviations tend to collide with
ISO country codes; US states are treated like 'countries' in this version
of the atlas, as there are too many identical city names in the US otherwise
if one makes the listing without selecting a state.
I am glad to see that there is a place for people to go who want to learn Astrology. I have just started, and this site is great for me. It has all the information that I need without being to overpowering. Thanks again for this site.

First I want to say that I think it's wonderful that your information is offered in so many languages, especially such a leser known one as Finnish. I study Finnish now and was an exchange studnet in Helsinki for a year after high school.
I have a question about the rising sign. What exactly is it's significance and is it possible that the one every computer program gives for me is wrong? When I read about my rising sign, I just don't feel that click! I feel more at home wiht the sign before the one the computer finds for me.
Is there anybody out there who can actually guess a person's sign when meeting somebody for the first time?
If anybody wants to give their oppinion or write to me abou anything, feel free to e-mail me at *tc.umn.edu

I had two imaginative goals in life that were fulfilled in one meeting, back on April 30th, 1997 at 930pm. One dream was to find out why dark eyed-dark haired woman always intrigued me much more then all other types of woman. The other goal was to meet someone who shared the same birthdate as mine. Well as it was to be, this was the same person. Not only did this beautiful person do this, she also inspired me to look deeper into myself. And as I did, I began to believe that I am capable of exceeding in what ever I may try. Our birthdates are June 25th, 1956. We (or I do not know what my time birth was).
She told me about her success, and I told her about my trials of success. Since then, I have created somewonderful songs .Now I believe it is time to share these ideas with her, to give this person thanks and to share whatever creditations my ideas gain. This is not going to be easy, considering we are two cancers. Anyways, I thought I would share this with you. I found this very compelling that two people of the same birth can be so different, yet unbelievable similiar. If you like to pursue more incite into this, e-mail me. One of my ideas is putting all this into a romantic novel form.

Thank you for your excellent website, it makes charting so very easy. This is an incredible, FREE service. I have a question about the north node. I ran a chart for my grandson who was born on 10/2/98 at 3:46AM in Cleveland, Ohio. According to your chart the north node on this date is in Leo, 29 degrees. However all the books and magazines I have state that the node is in Virgo until 10/20/98. Please clarify this discrepancy for me. I trust your site inherently, but want to check this difference out. Thanks,
Heidi Sealfon [ *aol.com ]
Wildomar, CA --- Sunday, October 11, 1998 at 06:12 Swiss time
Alois adds:
Dear Heidi, you have a point here which deserves a few words.
There are two ways to define the Lunar Node.
1. The traditional way is to take the Mean Lunar Node. It is derived from
the mean lunar orbit, i.e. the average ellipse around which the actual
path of the Moon waggles.
2. The so-called True Lunar Node has a somewhat misleading name. It
is derived by expanding the current path of the Moon into an ellipse
and computing where this hypothetical ellipse intersects the ecliptic.
The True Lunar Node is only true in the literal sense twice a month, when the Moon actually goes
through he plane of the ecliptic. At all other times it is even more hypothetical
than the average/mean Lunar Node.
As the actual lunar orbit is not an ellipse,
computing its intersection point with the ecliptic by assuming an elliptic
path is quite wrong expect for those two moments in every lunar cycle when
the Moon is close to the ecliptic anyway. In the average, the mean orbital
elements are the better approximation. Why the 'true' Lunar Node has become
fashionable is some astrological circles is beyond my comprehension. It must
be due to its misleading name, but certainly not based on a deeper understanding
of celestial mechanics. The astronomical term 'true' does not imply 'correct'.
For planetary positions, for example, astrologers do not use the 'true'
position (where a planet actually is in space) but the 'apparent' position,
where a planet is observed when one looks from Earth to the sky.
The difference between both definitions of the nodes can be up to two degrees.
The mean Lunar Node entered Leo on Sept 18th, while the True Lunar Node
will enter it on Oct. 21 1998.
Some astrologers use the Mean Node, some the True Node; it is a matter of taste.
Good ephemerides list both.
At Astrodienst we use the Mean Lunar Node in the online charts. With the
Astro*Intelligence reports, we sometimes list the True Node, sometimes the Mean
Node. It depends on the preferences of the authors at the time when the reports
where created. As our authors
do not put much emphasis on the interpretation of the
Lunar Nodes anyway, it does not really matter what is listed. In my personal
opinion, the Nodes are not very important for a chart reading.
To satisfy visitors who want to know both types of nodes,
I have modified our online chart selection list so that now the second option in
the list offers the True Node; all others use the Mean Node.
I like your site very much. One question: I had my chart done by Llewellyn out of MN. It is the same type of chart (placidus). They have my ascendant as 21LEO53 while yours is 10LEO07. I realize that there is a big market for drawing up and interpreting charts, so it is most refreshing to find a free chart service. You've done those interested a great service. I've tried charts on myself before, but it's so hard, what with lon/lats, time conversions, and daylight versus standard times. If my mother in law can ever remember what time my husband was born i'd love to do one on him! he is sun-sign Virgo, but he is incredibly MESSY, not neat like the stereo-type of Virgo. Can someone tell me to what extent the moon sign and ascendant's importance are? I've heard both are so important in personality type. Thank you.

Am very thankful for a reliable source for longs/lats. Your site is very helpful in many areas and I've grown to trust it. However, when looking at house dispositers page, I've encountered a problem. For birth of Apr 5, 1941 at 6:31am CST, Chicago IL, it seems this area is in error or I'm reading it wrong. It shows moon being house disposited by Mercury...shouldn't it be Cancer since Cancer rules 3rd? Also, shows Uranus being house disposited by Mars instead of Venus which rules 1st. I don't know what I'm doing wrong as sign dispositers are all correct. Would appreciate your help. Thanks!
Nuxta [ N*aol.com ]
Little Rock, USA --- Wednesday, October 7, 1998 at 06:59 Swiss time
Alois adds: The house dispositors for this chart are not the rulers of the
sign on the house cusp, but the classical house rulers, i.e. 1st house =
rules by Aries, 2nd = ruled by Venus etc. Saturn in 1st, Mars in 10th => Mars
and Saturn are in mutual reception at the top of the chart.

I would like to point out a technical consider- ation: A chart for the northern hemisphere is drawn for an observer facing the ecliptic. This results in an anti-clockwise chart being drawn. If this principle is applied for southern hemi- sphere it appears clockwise. The mathematics applied is correct, only the presentation of the chart is different. I hope that this viewpoint can be seen in a positive way so as to match the skies from an observer's view point. Thank you,
for the service you offer.
Gerlitz Grundleigh
Port Elizabeth, South Africa. --- Monday, October 5, 1998 at 18:02 Swiss time
Alois adds: I am aware of this. The chart is always drawn for a person
facing south, so that the sunrise - which is east in both hemispheres -
is to the left.
For someone on the southern hemisphere facing south
to see the eclipitic, he/she must lay down on he ground or bend backwards
quite acrobatically, to see
the ecliptic which is overhead more to the north.
It might indeed be theoretically desirable to draw the chart differenty for
a person in the southern hemisphere. However, astrological tradition
does not do this. All astrologers I have met from South America, Australia
or southern Africa have drawn the same charts as we use them in the north.
The chart is very much an abstracted design, horoscopy is not
connected to the physical observation of the sky anymore, but the reading
of this abstract design. We do also not see the outer planets Uranus,
Neptune, Pluto, we do not see the planets under the horizon when we
look at the sky, and we do not see the tropical zodiacal signs but
only the sidereal ones. We do not see houses and Lunar Nodes.
For worlwide communication about astrology it
is better when the same chart style is used everywhere, abstracted from
physical reality as it is.
Your site is awesome and the detailed analysis of the chart is mindboggling...i go crazy wj\henever i enter the site...but i find that my horoscope casted in india and according to your site varies in that the panetary position in houses is different.
in chart styles why not include the indian style like the sqaure type chart with 12 houses?????

Getting my birth certificate is nearly impossible since the state that I was born in changed the laws in 1991 and I have not live in that state since I was 4 years old. Does anyone have any advice?

Wrote a short text in haste earlier today but have more time now to expand...I am a professional astrologer/counsellor who has been studying the Art for over 20 years...mainly use midpoints/8H system of aspects in chart analysis/transit work, and I avoid using houses, even 'signs' are slowly being pushed aside in my work lately...I am enthusiastic about this site because of the ATLAS facility, which is incredibly valuable to me...alas the first place I keyed in, Bayshore NY (USA) was not included! Next biggest town was, however...and I imagine I will be returning to this site in future. I will spread the word also to the astrological community in Ireland. Now may I make a request? I would like to hear from users of Solar Fire v.4, if they have experiences ain to mine. viz. the program crashing (or rather, "freezing") when moving between screens. This happens repeatedly on my PC, even when no other program is running, and its specs are perfect - but noone I have spoken to (admittedly only a handful) have reported a similar fault when they use the program. Am I alone in this? If you had or are having similar problems, please email me at *indigo.ie (that's JDL). Thanks, and good luck!

Alois adds: Dear John, the place is spelt 'Bay Shore'.
In similar cases, when you do not find a city which you would expect to find,
please enter shorter search strings, e.g.
bay, ny
This would bring up all cities in NY which start with 'Bay'. The simple rule
is 'type less, find more'.
For Solar Fire questions, I recommend visiting the author's
home site at www.esotech.com.au.
There you will find their email address and an FAQ.

Alois adds: I have added the additional chart type.
Thank You For the presence of such interesting server on astrologies.
I have an interest - You do forecasts with provision for "law of retribution" - a predetermination of fate in following births.
Regards.

Thank you so much for this page. I was wondering how i could find out the rising for someone born in South africa at about 4 in the afternoon, South Africa time on April 4, 1975. I've discovered that the sun is in Aries, and I've gotten differerent opinions about the moon, and for the rising. I thought that the moon was in aquarius and the rising was in capricorn. PLease tell me what they are. Thanks again.
Sincerely,
-LSC

When the time is hard and it seems that there is no way out. Then people start looking for easy ways. Just one question Sir, I know that you are doing a great job in yourself. By all due respect does Astrology really works. Does a human beings future is sealed by the time he or she is born. If that's the case then we are mearly puppets with our life history already written by an unknown sourse. Please advise me something. Thank you. Andrag
