Printed aspect & mid point chart for 10/1/98. Chart does not show a moon sex. aspect with Pluto. However, when I reviewed the Astrolog reading for 10/1/98, I found this aspect listed for 1:28 AM for 40N43 & 74W00. As I investigated further, I found that Astrolog did not offer a "weight" for this alignment as it always does. Can I assume that this is an Astrolog error & that the Moon Pluto sex. does not occur at 1:28 am 10/1/98 ??

Great service! Two suggestions to make it even better: - Calculate the distance between two cities. This can be done from latitude and longitude, of course, but not many people know how. And it's very useful. - Get yourself listed on Yahoo!

Also, any tips on using menu to get full sized 11x8 aspect/midpoint charts and getting the minutesm 7 hours for the aspects would be greatly appreciated.

Alois adds: The program ASTROLOG was created by Walter Pullen, not by Astrodienst. The program is free and can be used by anyone. Astrodinst uses it currently on its website for chart generation. The program is very complex and has hundreds of options; it is not particularily user friendly. The best recommendation is to read the 300-page helpfile. If there are questions left, you may try to email Walter Pullen directly.

Fabulous site! Thanks so much! Could you clear up one last bit of confusion? I was born on July 11, 1957 at 1:29 pm in Shirley, Massachusetts,USA. Apparently my birth time is on the cusp between Libra and Scorpio rising as I have bee given charts in the past with a Libra ascendent and with a Scorpio ascendent. I have been trying to determine if Massachusetts was on daylight savings time at the time of my birth in 1957. I know that states varied before the national implementation of daylights savings time in 1967. The chart calculated through your site used daylight savings time. Can you tell me the source?

Astrodienst has dons this since January 1980, i.e. for nearly 19 years. In some areas, e.g. the creation of horoscope readings by computer, we are the leading company in the world. Leading not necssarily in the volume of sales (here we are probably second), but in the quality of what we provide.

As a gift to the worldwide astrological community we operate this free chart server on the Internet. In the near future it will be extended to generate free readings as well.

THANKYOU for providing this service at no cost! What a gift you are providing us all!

I was thrilled to find a FREE chart service! Terrific! I have one request: do you provide the declinations for the planets, and if so, where do I find them? After 20 years of studying astrology I am convinced that Magi Astrology (which requires declinations as well as longitudes) is a must for complete chart interpretation. Thanks.

Anna [ *ameritech.net ]
Algonquin, USA --- Friday, September 18, 1998 at 19:16 Swiss time

Alois adds: Dear Anna, none of the chart options in the current list has declinations. I can tell you a work-around, tough:

Run a normal free graphical chart.
Take a note of the Julian Day listed on the right of the chart, e.g. Julian Day = 2451075.0023
Open a second browser window and go to the page http://www.astro.com/swisseph/swetest.htm
In this Swiss Ephemeris test form, you have to fill three fields:
Start date: enter j2451075.0023, do not forget the 'j' in front. It is the Julian day value you read from the graphical chart.
Output format: modify it to read 'PLBRSD', i.e. add a 'D'. If you only want ecliptic longitude and declination, make it 'PLD'
Other options: enter '-ut'
Now press the SUBMIT button on the form.
You will get a listing of planet positions, and the last column will be the declination. It sounds complicated but it is easy. This Swiss Ephemeris test page is an excellent tool.

You can even download a free small program SWETEST.EXE from our site which will allow you to do the same locally on your PC, from an MSDOS command line.

I'm pretty new at this astrology stuff, and I wonder if you could answer a basic question for me? What are sextiles and trines between two signs exactly? Does it mean that the signs involved have six houses/planets the same (sextile) or three houses/planets(trine)? I haven't been able to find a clear answer in any texts I've read so far. Any help you could give would be great! Just email me at address above. Keep up the terrific work you're doing on this site--I love it! Thanks again! Beth Kuilman

Beth [ beth.*gte.net ]
, USA --- Friday, September 18, 1998 at 03:32 Swiss time

Alois adds: Sextiles and Trines are angular measurements, the sextile is a 60 degree angle (a sixth of a full circle), the trine is a 120 degree angle (a third of a full circle).

One usually considers angles not so much between signs (these are static, a built-in property of the zodiac) but between planets. Two planets having an angle of 120° between them are said to have a trine aspect. It is unlikeley that two planets have EXACTLY 120° between them; therefore one allows a variation, e.g. an angle between 110° and 130° counts as a trine. This allowed variation (10 degrees in my example) is called the 'orbis' or 'orb' of the aspect (angle). Different astrologers allow different orbs for an aspect to be considered valid, some wider, some narrower. Liz Greene and Thomas Ring, the astrologers I consider my main teachers, have always allowed rather wide orbs.

In a chart drawing in European style, angles (aspects) are represented by coloured lines between the planets. Of particular interest are the larger figures sometimes formed by these aspect lines, e.g. grand trines, T-squares etc.

NB: An angle is not a heavenly creature, and reptiles are the most nasty aspects in a chart.

I was terribly excited about finding your site and what you offer. I've been doing astrology for several years, as a student and amatuer, with a very good teacher. I have the Solar Fire software program, but find that it is lacking in some areas... although great for running charts, which of course is the step in knowing how things sat at birth, etc. I have a gizillion text books, but have never gotten around to buying one which tells me correct time zones, i.e., if it was daylight savings time, standard time, or wartime, etc. So when doing a new chart for someone older, I have to run 2... which of course changes the angles... and does make a difference as to the sign and degree placement of the houses. I've begun using the Koch, although my teacher of 5 years uses Placadus and claims it works best for her. I've read differing opinions on that. When I go into your time zone area, put in a date and time, does it automatically give me the daylight/standard/wartime, without stating such? I've done one this morning, which I'd run 2 separate charts for, and your's came up instantly using the wartime zone. I'm taking that to heart and assume it was mountain wartime for sure, rather than simply mountain standard time. The date is 12 May 1945, 7 a.m. Denver CO, US. Thank you again for this site. I'm always eager and hungry for "more." I've read Liz Greene's works and am very, very impressed... the psychological aspect is of great interest to me. Also, have writings by Rob Hand. I could spend the rest of my life working on these things!!! I do not feel the confidence in interpreting, however, at least not confident enough to tell the person anything I feel is really significant. Thanks again, its wonderful. A tremendous help.

As I said, I'm quite a beginner (also a bit of an internet illiterate - sorry for sending that last message twice). I figured out that you're including seconds in your figures. So, the degrees are the number before the sign. Thus, I think I can deal with the aspects. Still concerned about the Chi and Nod... Thanks again!

Thank you so much for the free chart. I am a beginner and am trying to interpret my own chart. I'm using a book called "Astrology for Beginners". It is very user-friendly, but doesn't seem to quite match the chart you gave me. For example, it (the book I'm using) uses 30 degree houses - yours seems to not. So, how can I determine the aspects? Also, yours includes (in the planets) Chi and Nod. What are these? I can't figure them out / find them based on the book I'm using. Could you recommend a text for me to use that will better match the chart you sent me? Or, is there a simple way for me to use the book I have with the chart you sent me? Thank you very much!

In addition, among the chart options there is one for a tabular aspect grid (contains also the midpoints). What more do you need?

Your site helped me recognize what was wrong with all of the other charts. For other interested parties... I am a Libra Sun, Pisces Moon, and Aries 1st Ascendent (*Mars in Aquarius*). One question. Do you think it might be possible to find and include on your site charts for synastry/compatibility? Thanks again, Adego

Hi, I have been looking at my charts for a while, but haven't checked them in at least a few months until today. I have two questions: first, it appears that all of my planets are the same or very close to my birth chart when I look at the progressed chart. I have never noticed that before. What does that mean? Second, if my birth chart is in one end of the U.S. and I now live at the other end, how do I adjust for that? Is there a program where you can enter the birth date, time, and place and the current date, time and place and get some relevant information? Thanks! Stephanie

Thank you for your reply. Yes, we are pretty crazy when it comes to time here in Northern Indiana. (I personally think daylight savings time is wholly unnecessary). I understand your database information, yet am still puzzled as to how I could get more than one chart showing my ascendant as Libra, as opposed to your data showing Virgo. Could you shed some light here? Would it just be a matter of someone having used the 'wrong' time zone information? Again, thank you for your reply! Peace, Love, and...Hope

Alois adds: There is a tremendous number of incorrect charts floating around because many people have no idea about the complexity of timezone and daylight savings time history, and just assume 'that it always was like it is now'. As usual, I cannot comment on charts made by others, I can only guarantee for ours.

Thanks For The Very Nice Chart. My Question: Two Of My Houses Are Ruled by The Same Sign. I Have Never Read Anything About This Before And Did Not Know It Was Possible. I Always Assumed One Starts With Their Ascendent In The 1st House And Follow In Rote Around The Zodiac. Can You Suggest A Specific Reference For My Edification. Thanks Very Much. Christine

Christine Hayes [ *3-cities.com ]
West Richland, USA --- Tuesday, September 8, 1998 at 19:28 Swiss time

Alois adds: You refer to the equal house system where very house measures 30 degrees. Most astrologers use unequal house systems, where houses have variable sizes.

Instead of rectification, which is often very questionable, I recommend careful research about the registered birth time.

Your site is wonderful! Thanks for all the free information. Keep up the good work. I do have a question, I have had charts done (4), computed one myself, and am still in a quandry as to what my ascentant is. I have done research at our local library to determine what time zone we were in then, and whether or not we were observing daylight savings time. My birth information is as follows: January 10, 1964 in South Bend, Indiana. The information I found in the local newpaper archive file indicates that South Bend was in the Eastern Standard Time Zone, and that South Bend chose NOT to observe daylight savings time. I did determine that the Time Zone changed from Central Standard to Eastern Standard in 1962, as a result of a decision made by the Interstate Commerce Division. I have found both Libra and Virgo ascendants. I would truly like to 'settle' this discrepancy as I am faced with making some 'life-path' decisions now and I would like to take some astrological information into account. Any information you could provide would be most appreciated. Thank You, Hope Sibley Peace, Love, and...Hope

South Bend, IN, USA --- Tuesday, September 8, 1998 at 19:11 Swiss time

Alois adds: According to the information we have South Bend was in EST zone at that time, and of course in January no daylight savings time applied in 1964.

In 1955 it went to CST,
in 1966 it went to EST
in 1966 to CST again,
in 1969 finally to EST.
What a mess!

I'm in a desperate search for the correct GMT for Kislovodsk, Russia during November 1980. 43N55 42e44.According to your information as well as the ACS's International Atlas the time zone during this period was -4. However, according to the Solar Fire, PC Atlas (which is updated!!) the GMT during the time was -3.I know that there have been numerous time changes in the USSR, which makes it very difficult! You guys are literally my last hope. I have been looking everywhere! 50% say it's -4 and the other (more updated half) go with the -3.I'm hoping that you would be able to look into this, (you probably have more contacts then I do) and provide me with sometype of solid information which would explain, why the information published by the same people (ACS) would give me two different time zones. O.K. so I'm begging! Please find out. P.S. It would be great, not only for my sake, but for other people in the field as well if this problem is cleared up. After all we don't want to be reffering to information that is incorrect. And obviously one of the two must be wrong!!! Thanks

Alois adds: We do know that there are problems with our Russian time zone data, but we do not have the time or means to sort out the various contradictorial sources. I hope for the astrological community of Russia and the other ex-USSR countries to research the issue and to publish reliable data about their countries history of timezone and daylight savings time sources.

It is a lot of work and there are no easy solutions.

Oh yeah, I almost forgot, Venus/Pluto in Leo the 12th, Saturn in Scorpio in the 2nd, Neptune in Libra in the 2nd. I beleive my star is on the rise. Any advice or counsel? Lastly, I would love to help you with web design, please feel free to check out our site. Any advice or counseling in trade off from Ms. Liz Greene would be outstanding. Thanking you in advance. First of all i want to say that i really love your site. My question is why did you change the item with the score's?Last year when our son was born you had the Ying and Yan score's but now they are gone.I would like have the same chart now our second child is about to be born Also many others have changed.Could you give some more info about the score's as well?

Hans Capello [ *publishnet.nl ]
Hellevoetsluis, The Netherlands --- Saturday, September 5, 1998 at 18:56 Swiss time

Alois adds: We received so many questions related to these questionable scores that we chose to drop the scores instead of replying to a stream of unnecessary questions.

The yin-yang count was simply a cound of odd and even sign numbers. Count the number of planets (inlcude Ascendant) in odd signs (aries, gemini etc) gives the 'yin' score, and in even signs (taurus, cancer, ..) gives the yang count. To make it simpler, add the fira and air figures = yin count, and the earth and water figures = yang count.

Other sources call it the male/female or plus/minus count. All these count denominations are as misleading as calling it 'yin/yang'.

I hope you can see why we thought it unimportant. The information is there anyway, easy to see for the ones who ar familiar with the concept, and mostly misleading to the ones who don't.

Love your site, thanks for putting it out to the world.I put in my birthdata, and the time zone for daylight savings adujusted on its own. I am glad about this. I can find the longitude and latitutde for anyplace now on our planet. Appreciate this greatly. Eileen Beattie

I asked you a while back about the difference between the sun-dial method and the Placidus method. Your comment said that most people speak English but Italian sounds better. Anyway my chart for August 21, 1947 was not that much different between the sun-dial and Placidus. I still had a Virgo ascendent , however at a different degree - the only difference was that my saturn and pluto in leo had moved from the 12th house into the 11th house. In reading the books I have it could be right in either case. My oldest daughter's chart however changed dramatically between the two methods. She was born April 1, 1976 at 2.34 a.m. in Toronto. with the sun-dial ascendant she has aquarius rising, with the Placidus method she has Capricorn rising. Her Neptune has moved from the 10th house to the 11th and her saturn has moved from the 6th to the 7th. To me this is quite a change. Her sun-dial chart was done by Mrs. Elizabeth Tessier who wrote four books entitled "Astrological Studies". She even commented that at 15.43 degrees aquarius this child is left-handed and she is. So now I am totally confused as to which is the right chart.

The Ascendant is the cusp of the 1st house, and it is listed on the side of the chart with all the other houses.

It can also be read from the graphics wheel itself, the intersection of the horizontal axis with the zodiac to the left.

In Indianapolis, Oklahoma, which is 12 degrees of longitude further to the west, the zodiac has not risen so far yet and the aszendant is still 23 degrees Gemini. So the error could also be that a different 'Indianapolis' was used. You did not specify a state. I assumed Indiana, but I am not really familiar with the geography of the mid-west area.

I have a question. When a person is evil, can this be seen in the person's natal chart? Which planets, which aspects can show us that? Wonderfull site!!!

Alois adds: No, the chart cannot show what a person makes out of his/her inner conflicts and struggles. Also intelligence is not indicated in the chart. Many successful people have 'difficult' charts, whereas many people considered evil have perfectly nice horoscopes. Hitler loved children and animals, and he was a vegetarian.

The information astrology provides about a person is on a different level. One can learn a tremendous amount about the kind of internal conflicts and struggles a person has, about what problems a person must confront in his/her psychological development, but not about the outcome. There are many ways to 'live' your horoscope, ways which are again and again surprising to an astrologer.

you are truly one of a kind! can't get enough. do more and more and more! thank you.
