I am truly excited about finding this site. I used to play around with astrology about 30 years ago as an amatuer. The research at that time was mind boggleing. The tools today with the computers and the internet are a blessing. What a wonderful service you offer. Thank you so much.

How stupid of me not to notice the map. My Cap Sun went straight for the chart and didn't even notice that the info was right in front of me. Perhaps it would be helpful if you notated that information on the chart. It's the one thing I look for to make sure that the program has made the adjustment. You and I both know the difference an hour makes! My experience has taught me to always notate on the chart about time changes and not all internet services make the adjustment. Thanks for your help.

Robert [ *livemag.com ]
Los Angeles, USA --- Wednesday, May 27, 1998 at 20:02 Swiss time

Alois adds: We have not much influence over what the ASTROLOG program (which is not our own software) displays, as it is very difficult to modify, but at least it shows the timezone after the hour field, in our standard encoding format like h5w for hours 5 west (we prefer west and east over plus and minus, because it cannot be misunderstood). The time'type' like 'standard', 'daylight', 'wartime' etc however is not displayed on the chart itself.

In due time we will replace the ASTROLOG program with our own charting software which we use internally at Astrodienst since nearly 20 years, and which creates much nicer charts (browse our catalogue section or look at a Astrocartography sample where the original is17 x 11 inch).
Our own software is currently being ported to C so that it will run on our webserver. I hope to be able to deploy it within the next three months.
Many more different chart styles will become available - everything Astrodienst offers. We will continue to provide basic charts for free and high quality output (downloadable high resulution images and Acrobat/PDF) for a nominal charge or an annual subscription fee. This service will be superior to most commercial astrology programs, simpler to use and more cost efficient for many users as they have no hassle with software installation, update and pay only for those few high quality charts they need, low quality remaining free as it is now.

I like the way that my chart is portrayed by your program. Thank you. Mike Hancewicz

As an astrologer, I can't always carry my various textbooks around with me. Is there a place on your site, or a site that you can recommend to find out when "time changes" take place, both past, present and future? I've spent the last hour on the net just trying to find out if it was wartime on 2/26/1944 in Chicago. Any suggestions?

Robert [ *livemag.com ]
Los Angeles, USA --- Tuesday, May 26, 1998 at 22:07 Swiss time

Alois adds: I find your question strange. Why did you not use our online atlasour online atlas. br>It does exaxctly waht you need: you enter chicago, select the right one in Illinois, enter your date, press 'update timezone' and the timezone map will show you whether wartime was or not. For your date, the map says 'CWT' which you should be able to undersatnd as 'central war time' and the yellow bubble says 'h5w WarT' which means timezone 5 hours west, war time. if you click on the map, you get a more detailed explanation.

Is this not all obvious?

I am new to all of the charts, though very interested. It says that the sun is in the aries, ascendant is 5 virgo. What does that actually mean?

Paula Manard [ Earth2S*webtv.net ]

Alois adds: I cannot start discussing charts here in the feedback area. But I have done something which might help you: The program ASTROLOG which we use currently for chart generation on our website does also have a simple 'reading' mode. While this kind of 'reading' is lightyears away from what a professional report like Liz Greene's Psychological Horoscope Analysis can give you, it is better than nothing. We have added the 'simple chart reading' option to the list of selectable chart types.

What happened to the e-mail comment from a woman saying her grandmother helped give birth to her and knew that without daylight savings time she was born on May 11th? The comment and its response that her grandmother was in the wrong and if the woman insisted on believing her grandmother was right your site could be of no use to her has been removed.

Curious reader
--- Wednesday, May 20, 1998 at 08:07 Swiss time

Alois adds: I have not consciously deleted anything, I edit or delete only offensive (mostly juvenile sexual) messages or entries with advertising content.

The discussion was not about whether daylight time applied or not but whether it was wise by the grandmother to subtract daylight time when the birth time was documented. This was not wise, as birth time should always be registered in the legally valid time, or tremendous confusion will arise later.

I just recieved many older astrology books and became interested. I started to make my own Natal chart but it turned out that the book only had information until 1971, so i was stuck. I just wanted to say thank you for offering the free natal charts. It really helped me out

There is no need to alienate users by rude responses to questions. Your response to my question about daylight savings time was: "sometimes I wonder how many visitors don't read. I think it is absolutely obvious that daylight savings time is automatically considered." Obviously it is NOT absolutely obvious. I asked the question because some astrology books are showing different results than you are. If yours is correct, fine. No need to be rude. Thanks for printing this letter in the list of comments.

LeAnne Agne [ leanne_*hotmail.com ]
Orlando, USA --- Tuesday, May 19, 1998 at 05:47 Swiss time

Alois adds: I know it is not good to alienate users, but for the price we charge one has to take what one gets.

The obvious is obviously not so for everyone, When someone plays around with the date entry a little it is VERY EASY to find out whether daylight savings time changes are builtin or not.

Fabulous, you have the most fabulous site. Thank you very much.

Lukos [ *usa.net ]

Your site is the most amazing, detailed astrology site I have ever come across. I have been interested in astrology for years and am learning more quickly with your information and charts to reference. One question, does your site calculate what places had daylight savings time in effect, and does it convert the birth time to standard time before setting the chart?

LeAnne Agne [ leanne_*hotmail.com ]
Orlando, USA --- Monday, May 18, 1998 at 06:29 Swiss time

Alois adds: This question comes up again and again. Sometimes I wonder how many visitors don't read.
I think it is absolutely obvious that daylight time is automatically considered, how else could the result page show it? It is the main purpose of our service, to do timezones automatically.

I am very impressed with the services you provide here. I was born 5/11/39 at 11:35 PM CST. My grandmother, a physician and homeopath, delivered me in her home in Oak Park, IL. She corrected the birthdate to standard time and May 11. Others born in that area at the same time would have shown 5/12 at 12:35 AM CDT by a less wise doctor. Is there anyway for me to get a correction in your program without putting what for me is the wrong date?

Patricia Brumm [ patricia.*singularity.org ]
Oregon, USA --- Monday, May 18, 1998 at 04:16 Swiss time

Alois adds: Your grandmother made a mistake. All timezones are 'artificial' and daylight time is not better or worse than standard time. Someone else could have the idea of 'correcting' everything to Universal Time, and many dates would change. You where born on the legal date May 12th, and the error was done when this was shifted to May 11th. If you insist in having '11' on your birth chart, you can never use a program which does automatic timezones, like ours.

Thanks for having such a nice site. I do visit it very often !!

Your service is absolutely incredible/Ihr Dienst ist ja auzgezeichnet! The quality of your charts is excellent! I only wish someone had told me about it sooner. I have only one suggestion and one (extremely mild) complaint to make: Suggestion: It's probably totally impractical, but it would be nice if the charts could be downloaded for printing, even if this meant the payment of a small fee. Sometimes there's really no substitute for ink and paper. Complaint: What's with the orbs?! A seven degree orb for a square is considered generous enough, but you're allowing for better than nine degrees. According to your service I have a fixed Grand Cross!!! As if I weren't already having enough trouble with my T-square ;-) Once again, thank you for your hard work and generosity. Alles zum Besten!

Jonah [ T*aol.com ]

We use large orbs (actually as defined by Liz Greene) at Astrodienst; you can always ignore aspects you don't count.

This really is an incredibly great website. I am addicted to it! My question is about whether there is an ephemeris-type page to look up a certain day and hour, say the current time, to see the moon placement, for instance. Also, what do you feel about the void-of-course; do you allow for it in charts? Do you believe it's important?

Brooke Blackaller
San Francisco, USA --- Thursday, May 14, 1998 at 22:12 Swiss time

Alois adds: You can look up a chart for any date and time you wish, and on the side of the chart all planetary and house positions for this date will be listed. This can serve perfectly well as an ephemeris, the only disadvantage being that you need a page per day.

However, there is a more convenient solution: Go to our sample report pages, and look at the Personal Horoscope Calendar. It has a full one-year ephemeris in the back pages. May - August 1998 for example is here. If there is demand, we could publish more of these. Of course it makes sense to own a printed ephemeris in book format, if you want to study more astrology.

Void of course Moon is not much used in Europe, except for electional astrology, rarely in natal chart readings. I use it when I have to make a chart for a business decision, (void ;-) of course.

Great. Accurate. I wanted to test it today. I will come back with correct information and order the reports. Thanks.

I really enjoy your service as I can look up all sorts of charts. However, I think that the VIP information can be expanded as I know of some people who are famous born on various days but that are not on your list. Also I find it rather unusual that a city like Butler Pennsylvania is not on your data base. The coordinates are 40n52 and 79w54. Please continue your good work.

Alois adds: We do not compile the VIP database ourselfes, and also do not maintain it. We would also like a better one but none with acceptable price exists. Our service is free, after all.

Butler, PA is contained in the database, I just looked it up. Did you type too much?

Thanks for the service. It's nice to see that you provide different house systems.

I think this site is wonderful. Thank you very much. My Part-of-Fortune is in Aries in the 1st house. The books I have don't elaborate on what is means. What does this mean?

Alois adds: It may be that it is not for you in such a case. There are thousands of vistors daily which seem to know well how to use the information they get here. years and years of work now out of the window.it is so much easier just to use this site rather than using pen and paper. thank you

Vielleicht kannst Du mir weiterhelfen? Herzlich Christian
