Thanks for answering me and I goofed by putting 8/25/97 instead of 8/25/53 in my question. I know you said that Detroit Michigan in 1953 did not use daylight savings time but my reference book "Time Changes in the USA" by Doane (published by the Amercian Fed. of Astrologers) clearly states that from 4/26/53 to 9/28/53 DST was in effect. I have used this reference book for many years and have always found it reliable. Please comment and thanks again for your help.

Alois adds:
It is clear that the American Atlas by Thomas Shanks,ACS is the much more
extensive source. Michigan was by no means uniform, there are many different
areas of the state which used different rules in the past. It is one
of the worst states in this respect.
But I checked my database files and find NO area of Michigan which had
daylight savings time in 1953.
I can only assume that Doane is wrong.
You can check yourself: go to the largest Detroit newspaper or library
and check the newspaper archives for the days around the supposed time
changes in 1953. Usually the time shift is mentioned in the newspapers.
Although astrology is off no interest for me, I think you have build a very informative site and I hope you will stay on the net for a long time. I'v added your site on my bookmark list and will check back next time I'm searching for a location or need to know a local time.

This is a great service! My problem is when I posted New Orleans, LA on June 24, 1953 at 7:32 I couldn't find the field to put "p.m." and as a result the time is shown as "a.m." Am I doing something wrong? Thanks for your response.

What a joy to find Astrodienst. I had not used the Web for awhile and am truly am amazed to find even more useful information at my finger tips. I think I found an error in the calculation for a Detroit, Michigan chart from 8/53, as it didnot account for daylight savings time. Please check and get back to me if you can. (Birthdata: 8/25/97, Detroit, 11:24 am). Thank you for all your work in setting this service up and maintaining it.

Thank you for your response to my query re not knowing the time of my birth. I shall try the birth registry in Brisbane, where I was born, but suspect it won't give it (not on birth certificates I've seen). Probably followed the UK custom, but here's hoping! Thanks.
Y.M.McLay
Brisbane, Australia --- Sunday, September 28, 1997 at 08:51 Swiss time
Alois adds: Dear Y, I think you will succeed. According to all I know Australia
does register birth times. You must make an important distinction: the birth
certificate does not hold the birth time (which is good, nobody should be
able to make your horoscope if you do not wish so). You must request
"a copy of the birth registry information including time of birth",
not just
another birth certificate.
I do not know my time of birth and there is no one still alive whom I can ask. I went in to my alpha levels at one stage and came up with 3a.m. but I am still doubtful. Have you any suggestions, please? I had a chart read using this time once but it did not ring a whole lot of bells. Thank you.

Central Europe in August 1999. There are total solar eclipses every year,
just not visible in Europe. I consider it a typical euro-centric atttitude
to give this eclipse so much more importance than to others, and I do not
share the 'end of the world' attitudes developing now towards the end of
the milennium. It is a calendary artefact to a large extent.

Houston, USA --- Sunday, September 21, 1997 at 04:14 Swiss time
Alois adds: Dear Maria, you seem to be confused by the European chart style
we use in our chart drawings. In this 'unequal' style the correct size of
the houses measured on the Ecliptic is shown. In the US, many astrologers draw
charts with different forms where each house is drawn as 30 degrees and the
correct cusp written down on it, even when they use unequal house systems
like we do.
All drawing styles are reductions of
a 3-dimensional space onto flat paper and give a limited impression.
The axis from IC to Medium Coeli (4th to 10th house cusp) is the Meridian,
which is exactly a line from north to south on the sky. It is tilted only
due to the drawing style - projection onto the Ecliptic. The horizontal
axis is from the Ascendant - the eastern rising point of the Ecliptic - to
the Descendant. The Ascendant is not exactly in the east, most of the time
(also the Sun rises exactly in the east only twice a year, on the Equinoxes).
Because we draw the Ascendant axis horizontally, the Meridian axis is tilted.
Some astrologers do it the other way, draw the MC axis vertically and tilt
the horizontal axis. It does not really matter. Just turn the chart a little
The Hemispheres are simple: everything above the horizontal axis is North and
below South. Everything left of the Meridian axis is East and right is West.
On the side, I have twin daughters as well, Pisces two years older than
yours. Isn't it wonderful? Their names are Lilith and Artemis.
I am boarn on the cusp sep.23 some people say I am a virgo and some say I am a Libra. What am I

out yourself in what sign the Sun is. The Sun does not change sign exactly
at midnight, but at irregular times (different every year). It can be on the

the autumnal equinox (and any other ingres of the Sun into a new sign)

Alois adds: According to our sources, Portugal went to Central European Time
on April 3, 1966 and stayed on it until Sept 26, 1976. Before and after it followed
a timezone regime similar to England, with GMT in winter and daylight savings
time (i.e. Central European Time) in summer.
If you want to check really, try newspaper archives in Portugal, the editions
around these two dates may contain references to the timezone changes.
People's memories are not very reliable in this respect - they tend to
remember the general rules which where good for 80 out of the last 90 years
(Portugal one hour behind Spain) but not for 10 years in between.

Glenda Hardingham [ *ij.net ]
Tampa, USA --- Saturday, September 13, 1997 at 06:01 Swiss time
Alois adds:
I don't know about red lines. They would be aspect lines (oppositions).
But maybe you refer to the two black lines which cross the whole chart.
These two lines are the Horizon and the Meridian, defining the four angular
points of the chart (Aszendant, MC, Descendant, IC).
These four points are very important.
If only the angle between both lines is the same, one cannot say anything
about two persons being specially related.
If two people share the same Ascendant (same sign) and the other
angular points, they have something in common in their personality.
Whether having something in common is good for a relationship, cannot
be said at all. Often the differences attract and bind much more.
I think it would be time for you to get to a bookshop and buy an
introduction to astrology. It is worthwile to read in depth about the
subject.
I'm so glad that there is a free service. I'm trying to find out my mission in life. I need to find out more.

Re: Prior question regarding 3sept1945 birthdate for atlanta, GA being presented as CWT (central war time).. instead of EWT.
when I ran New York, NY for the same date it displayed EWT (as it should) and color coded the eastern part of the us (including Atlanta) as part of EWT. It calculates the GMT correction as 4hours (correctly compensating for -1 hour for daylight savings time).
I believe there is a error in astrolog which incorrectly portrays Atlanta as in CWT zone. It causes 13 degree error in Asc. (should be 11 Sag, but Astrolog calculates it as 24SAG)..

ran another calculation to get confusing result for birthdate of 7 september 1966 *1150 am Central Daylight Time.
The map display had CST vs CDT at top of map and an offset of 6hr from GMT vs 5 (as daylight savings time should be)
the resultant Astrolog Natal Asc= 25 SCORPIO but my calculations (subtracting one hour from birth hour) yield ASC= 13 SCORPIO..
Daylight savings time does not stop in US until late October. Am I doing something wrong to subtract 1 hour from local time for september births???

outstanding web page and convenient natal chart builder.. but I have a question.
my birthdate is 3 September, 1945 *1430 War Time.
The chart map has CWT at the top of the map and an offset of 5hr from GMT
the resultant Asc=24SAG which I believe to be wrong as Atlanta is in Eastern US not central....
When i hand calculated my Asc, I assumed that Atlanta would be Eastern War Time, not central, with an offset of 4hours from GMT.. same as Eastern Daylight time.. leading to Asc=11Sag.. shouldn't the chart read "EWT" instead of Central War Time (CWT) for Atlanta, Ga??

for US timezones. It seems that Georgia was on Central time until 1941, and
then again from 1943-1945, when it finally went to eastern time.
Re your second entry: Georgia started daylight time only again in 1967, it did
not have any in 1966.
Please feel invited to verify (mostly consulting local newspaper archives)
what we tell you. But you should use real printed sources. Just what you
BELIEVE to know about the use of daylight time in the US is not sufficient.
it is a very complex historical matter, particularily before the Uniform
Timezone Act. In some states, where each county could define the rules,
daylight time has been a total mess.
Einfach wunderbar !!!
So einen Server habe ich schon lange gesuht!
Schoen das Sie das gemacht haben.

Great to have access to this chart service-thanks, for providing it! Does anyone have the official time of Diana's accident or her death? I printed up two charts , one with 12:27am as time of accident and the other with 4:00 as time of death. They both seem very telling, however, I am interested in being as accuarate as possible.

One of the better if not the best Astrological Website to go to when a chart is needed in a hurry. No circling of repeat pages, just straightforward, no-nonsense, simple instructions. As a former news editor (newspaper), may I also congratulate on your lay-out & make-up of pages. Most sincerely, Leonard Kazmierski

I so greatly appreciate the chart calculations that your site was ableto provide and wonder if you can answer a question. Below the listing of planets there is a sign for Chi. What does this represent? I did recognize Nod. as the Ascendant sign.
Glenda Hardingham [ *ij.net ]
Tampa, USA --- Saturday, September 6, 1997 at 00:47 Swiss time
Alois adds:Chi is Chiron, one of the asteroids.
Nod is the Moon's node
The Aszendant is the 1st house cusp listed in the group above the planets.
But more convenient, the Aszendant sign and degrees is already written
on the time zone page.
It has been very enlightning, I found out today after lots of money spent on charts, etc...that my moon is in Libra instead of Aquarius ...You have made me a very happy woman.....

Sorry for not understanding you great program since I got the first chart by accident. You are a lifesaver because a person I told I knew a little about astrology asked for help and I found when I moved, I had lost all my books on Astrology. I will soon replace them but in the meantime, I so appreciate you making me look capable.

Four messages where sent in sequence (starting at the bottom):
I am asking for a chart for a Gemini and the one I am reading is for a Taurus. I have assumed that that was someone else, but did you put that up for me by mistake?
Did you get my request for the other chart calculation to compare with the first. The one I need is: female born 5/30/1939 at Indiana, Pa. at 10:11 AM.
May I have a chart for female born 5/30/39 at 10/11AM in Indiana, Pa.?

Alois adds: Glenda, you have not understood our website. It is a 'do your
own chart for free system', i.e. YOU have to enter the information in the
appropriate fields in the web atlas and
will be shown a chart for these data when you click the correct buttons.
You might have to read what is written on the screen to be able to get what
you want.
There is no person at the other end of you phone line watching you type and
set up the charts for you.
About 250'000 visitors
have mastered this process already since we are online, so you should give it a try as well.
Of course, if you want to order Astro*Intelligence reports, you should use our
order form and then a person will process this order.
I'm sorry. I have read that your program accounts for Daylight Savings Time, but I do not understand why, when I enter my children's birth times, it lists the time on the chart as ST (I suppose that means Standard Time) when I know they were born during DST. Also, can you share the significance of being born on the cusp, or of being on the cusp of a rising sign? I was born May 22, 1961, 10:23am (believe it was DST), in Baltimore, MD, USA.

Alois adds: The program ASTROLOG which we use has no concept of timezone-naming.
It always labels the timezone field 'ST' independent of what type of time was
used. But the number behind the 'ST' tells you what timezone is used, it
give the difference to GMT. Now, Frederick MD, which you used as city, is
in in winter on EST (ST -5.00) and in summer on EDT (ST -4.00). The chart you
made on our website did the right timezone (-4.00). I cannot change the way
ASTROLOG is programmed by its author.
On the timezone webpage, however, from which you clicked your way to the
chart itself, you saw a little map. There the timezone is labelled
correctly as 'EDT' on top of the green line, and in the little yellow cloud
you read 'h4w DST' which means 'hours 4 west, Daylight Saving Time'.
I eagarly want to know about my current and future fortune in more & more details.
Waiting for your respons towards my query.
Regards,
sincerely yours

My reason that I visited here is to find the longtitude and the latitude of the list of the cities which is given below.
If you can help me I would be very grateful.

P.S: The reason that I'm searching for these country is because of an astrology program named "AstroMart".

cities are there and totally easy to find, just type in the city name

Our logfiles show that you retrieved all these cities and even did some
charts with them, before you wrote the message above. What purpose should
your message have?

Winnipeg, Canada --- Monday, September 1, 1997 at 18:34 Swiss time
Alois adds:
It depends on the distance and precision of birth time. 40 miles
distance = 4 minutes time difference. If your birth time is not
given to the exact minute, it does not matter whether any city in the
40-mile radius is used for the chart.
Very excellent site. Your databasee of locations
is clearly unbeatable and deserves the highest
