Actually no need to add on further appreciative comments this really is a wonderful and helpful site.
I was looking for Friedrich Glauser (Swiss writer) in the VIP database but unfortunately could not make him out. I wonder, is there any possibility I could get hold of his chart and exact dates? All I know is that he was born in Vienna (Austria), on Feb. 4, 1896. Suggestions welcome.
Greetings and many thanks.

Thank you so much; I just recently got married and wanted to do comparative charts for all of our attendants and their significant others as tokens of our appreciation (It usually takes me multiple hours to do a chart and with 10 attendants, you can imagine the work) I will continue to use this service, it is remarkable, and much appreciated that it is free!

I must agree on how simple you have made drawing a chart. I have been told by an Indian astrologer that health problems with my kidneys are associated with a bad aspect with a planet or some sort of object called Rahu. Do you know what this translates to in the Western system of astrology.

Thank you!
After finding this site I´ve learned more and more (I´m just a beginner). Finally I can SEE something in the chart, in spite of only listing the planets and signs.
PS: Please, could you explain the meaning of abbreviations: M, N, A, D and Ang., Suc....etc. in the chart.
Mari Katainen [ marianne.*metsa.fi ]
Helsinki, Finland --- Wednesday, May 28, 1997 at 17:11:40 Swiss time
Alois adds:
Ang = angular houses, Suc = succeeding houses (2, 5, 8, 11), Cad = cadent
houses (3, 6, 9, 12). M is the number of objects above the horizon (i.e. in the `Southern' hemisphere of the Midheaven); N is the number of objects below the horizon (in the `Northern' hemisphere of the Nadir); A is the number of objects in the Eastern half of the sky (in the hemisphere of the Ascendant); and D is the number of objects in the Western half of the sky (in the hemisphere of the Descendant).
You find most of these answers

However, these files describe the ASTROLOG program when you have installed

The site is fantastic, and quite a service. Bravo to you all for making charts accessible to everyone, including those who glaze over at the thought of DST.
One question: what's a good program to print this from. I don't have pagemaker or anything like that, and though I do Epson Stylus color, its pretty blurry printing from Netscape.
Keep up the great work

vista, USA --- Tuesday, May 27, 1997 at 19:10:49 Swiss time
Alois adds: the resolution of a line-art drawing on the screen is limited
due to screen resolution of 72 dpi. We could make the charts much larger,
to get more pixels, but download times would also be much longer, and viewing
on 640x480 screens very difficult.
We are considering to offer postscript
or Acrobat format for download. Currently the best way is to get your own copy
of the ASTROLOG program and run it locally.
Nothing to comment.

Very interesting! But why did you take away the daylight savings that were possible to add to the chart just a couple of months ago? Or: what function did the daylight savings have? I went to visit a local astrologist in my hometown. He found out that my ascendant was Leo. When using the daylight savings, I got the same result, but now the ascendant is one degree into Virgo. How come?
Yours sincerely

Alois adds:
I do not understand your post.
Maybe you are confusing www.astro.com with some other website.
Our server AUTOMATICALLY takes into account all daylight savings times
if they need to be applied. You must never make any changes to a
birth time, just enter it as it was registered. There was never a different
system at www.astro.com.
If your ascendant is different in another calculation from what you find
here, there are these possibilities
- you entered the wrong time (50%).
- the other calculation was wrong (49.9%).
- our database information is incorrect (0.1%).
Americans like to "play" with other languages, even if we dont know much of it, so I say Guttentag to you and your site is vunderbar for an
astrologer of 23 years..I have ACS books, but it was easier to come here...I couldn't remember if Feb.1942 was considered EWT or not and you did it for me quickly!! May I link your site to my web site "www.soulmateRs.com? Only other comment is: astrologers are used to using military time 2300 hrs, but the layman who is trying to do his chart may not be. In any case, thank you so much for a
wonderful resource.

Why is West Palm Beach, Fla not in EDT before 1967? Is it because it is so far east?
Felicia
, USA --- Sunday, May 25, 1997 at 17:02:34 Swiss time
Alois adds: Because it is so far south!
The length of the day varies between summer and winter much
more in northern latitudes. The closer you get to the equator, the less
variation there is; closer to the poles the variation becomes extreme -
permanent polar day in summer and polar nigth in winter.
Floriday - as many other southern states and countries - did not feel
the need to observe daylight savings time, until the Uniform Timezone Act
of 1967 which ended the period of great confusion in American timezone
regulations. Even today the state of Hawaii does not observe daylight savings
time - and hopefully other states and countries become more intelligent
and drop it as well. The supposed energy savings are a myth, and the
disruption of natural rhythms by arbitrary time shifts is severe.
Have you ever heard of the A.P.C. system?

Alois adds: Please go to our

compute and display your own chart. On the chart graphics to the right you find
a text line '1st house ....'. There your degree and sign of Aszendant is
given. All signs are abbreviated with the first three letters. The start of the
first house in the horoscope is the same as the Ascendant.
Later addition: For your convenience, Sofia, I have improved our program. Now the
Ascendant is shown directly on the timezone conversion page, in the second or
third line below the map.
Daylight savings time is the worst bane of
doing charts, your server is an extremely useful
tool for timezones. But today I encountered

start until April. Please clarify this.

I remember 1974 as the year of the Oil Crisis when many countries started
emergency measures to conserve energy. In Germany, where I lived at that
time, there was a series of 'auto free' Sundays.
In the USA daylight savings time started on Jan 6 1974 and on Feb 23 1975,

Kandel, Germany --- Monday, May 19, 1997 at 23:50:33 Swiss time
Alois Treindl adds: When you choose a place and come to the timezone page
for the first time, the preset time and date shows the local time at this
moment, NOW, at the chosen place.
Usually the user changes this preset date and
time because he/she wants a chart not for 'now', but for a specific birth date.
From this point on it is the user who sets the local time, as this is the time
in which birth information is registered.
If your question however was asking for 'local mean time': it is not given
because it has no practical value. Some old sidereal time formulae claim
to require it, but they have outlived their usefulness long ago, since time
zones where introduced at the end of the last century.
I just came accross your listing and was impressed and was wondering if I could add it to my site as a link to your page?

You could have used our Internet atlas to set up his chart.
It is very simple, just follow the list of steps as indicated
in the atlas start page.
I just did it for you, your friend has the Sun at 0 vir 33', i.e. about
half a degree Virgo. Only if he was born more than 12 hours earlier he
would be Leo. The exact moment when the Sun changes signs varies every
year, because the length of the astronomical year is not an exact multiple
of whole days, and we have leap years to compensate the incommensurability.
On border-line cases it is always necessary to compute a precise chart to
get the correct Sun sign; looking up Sun sign tables is not enough.
Your friend's Ascendant is 8 Capricorn, and his Moon is in Leo.
