Discussion about
Dennis Kucinich, born 8 October 1946 at 5:53 PM in Cleveland OH

This discussion is imported from the  comment board on the  previous astrodatabank.com website.

  • What makes this guy willing to enter the world of politics - a world which regularly dismisses and disdains heart- centered values?
  • Can one read Progressive politics in a chart?
  • If you were his campaign advisor, which aspects of his chart would you counsel him to put to full use. Hint: he has four planets in Scorpio, a stellium in the 7th, and a tight Saturn, Pluto, Mars configuration.

This is one of those charts that, without the T-nep Posiedon, you would never really understand this man. Posiedon is conjunct his Neptune in the 6th house of the servant. Trop Geocentric has them in Libra, but Fagan-Allen has them in Virgo. Also, in FA the ascendant is Pisces, ruled by the Neptune conjunct Posiedon. In TG the ascendant is in Aries ruled by Mars in Scorpio. I think we need to choose the Zodiac and house system that best expresses the life of the individual!

1. He wants to enter politics because of Neptune square (Cardinal) his M.C., he is looking for higher ideals. The strong 7th house and the Sun opp. the Asc. makes him like to interact with people. His Pluto trine his Asc. gives a strong need for reform of humanity. 3. I like the Sun trine Uranus aspect and Pluto trine the Asc.

Dennis Kucinich has no planets in earth signs. This indicates that he is not practical. And he has Mars in Scorpio in the 7th house squared by Saturn and Pluto in Leo in the 4th house. Under pressure he might lose it. IMHO his election to the presidency would be a a disaster waiting to happen.

What makes this guy willing to enter the world of politics ? Can one read Progressive politics in a chart? If you were his campaign advisor, which aspects of his chart would you counsel him to put to full use? Answer: Chiron, Chiron, Chiron!!! The more I study Chiron, the more I see it as an initiator into holistic values. We might get wounded learning those values, but once we understand that the universe runs on eternal principles, such as the ones symbolized by astrology, we can become teachers and healers, first of ourselves, and then initiating others by example. Since Kucinich's Chiron is widely conjunct his Sun ( I know it's over 10 degrees but the trines to Uranus and the Node give it more power), he could be a real example by shining for all of us other poor sods. Since the conjuntion is in Air sign, Libra, and the seventh house to boot, he has a charming, balanced and just attitude, even though it's still all politics. The Scorpio stellium means he's good with wielding money and power, but the square from Mars to Saturn and Pluto in Leo suggests to me that he might have to be cautious choosing a stand on sexual concerns like gay rights. Saturn suggests that no matter how tolerant and progressive we are in these matters (a fact enhanced by his Pisces Moon), there are still laws of the universe which govern our behavior on the physical plane.

Perhaps with all the planets on the "others" side of the chart, and a focus in Libra and Scorpio, along with an Aries Ascendent, he considers himself able to do for others.
I say let's take a look at what has happened, and plays out in his life as transiting Chiron goes direct. Transiting Chiron has been squaring his Neptune, Sun, and natal Chiron. As it turns direct Sept. 17, 2003, there may be some ways in which he demonstrates his wounded healer being healed.
Whether he gets on the ticket for the Presidential election or not, he may be playing, without his conscious knowledge, maybe, a role to steer the election process in a altered path.
And he has worked his way up through the ranks within the political structure.

Kucinich is an idealist(Pisces Moon) and a fighter(Aries-rising). He can be both nice(Libra planets)and nasty(Scorpio planets). As with Teddy Roosevelt and Ross Perot, the bully pulpit of politics overcomes his small size and achieves his ambition of being taken seriously.
To find "Progresive politics" on a chart, we must first define the term. Contrary to common belief, Progressivism is not Aquarian. In fact, Uranus rules capitalism, while Neptune rules socialism. The right-wing German Chancellor Bismarck(Pisces Mercury-Pluto) was the father of Social Security out a moral sense of charity and political desire for stability. Progressivism has always been a reaction(Pluto/Scorpio/eighth-house) to the abuses of unfettered capitalism. In the early 1800´s, successful Jewish stock-broker, respected politician, and renowned economist David Ricardo saw that the urban Industrial Revolution was concentrating(Saturn) wealth(Pluto) in the hands of the few. Karl Marx read Ricardo and used the idea that the rich get rich as the poor get poorer in his atheistic political ideology. While history has since disproved Communism, it hasn´t disproved Ricardo. Kucinich, Bush, Cheney, Gore, and others have notable Saturn-Pluto aspects in their charts. This is a sign of the times, in which concentration of wealth is again a political reality.
The US Progressive movement achieved some reforms in the early 1900´s, and a Progressive Party was formed in Albany on July 31, 1912 to support TR´s(Pisces MC, Leo Saturn, and Scorpio Mercury-Sun) unsuccessful bid to return to the White House. Far from triumphing, however, Progressives then got lost in the politically-correct madness of Prohibition and have since seen corporate interests spend large sums on Congress to gain control of the very government agencies set up to regulate them and on PR to influence public opinion through the media. According to historian Gabriel Kolko, the failure of Progressivism in America results less from irrelevant utopianism(Neptune/Pisces) than the "lack of a truly radical(Pluto/Scorpio) political program capable of synthesizing political democracy(Moon/Cancer) with industrial(Saturn) reality". Astrologically, these are emotional Water issues, with which Dennis Kucinich is theoretically well-prepared to deal.
 J. Hines notes a potential for disaster in that chart ruler Mars square Saturn-Pluto could cause Kucinich to "lose it in disaster". This already happened as Cleveland mayor. Booed in public and defeated for re-election, "Dennis the Menace" was later proven 100% right. Tough(Saturn) and incisive(Pluto) fighters(Mars) can also be ahead of their times, and today Kucinich is the only Democratic Presidential candidate to have actually voted against the pre-emptive War in Iraq. While he has no chance of being elected in 2004, he may play a more significant role in 2008(Converse MC= ruler Mars). We would counsel him to forget the irrelevant Utopian(Pisces Moon in twelfth square) demagoguery(Gemini Uranus in third house of communications) of comparing poverty, homelessness, and lack of education to WMDs, and work to present his populist message as well as Perot(Cancer Ju-Su-Asc-Moon-Pl and Pisces MC) did in 1992. Ross frightened the Beltway into balancing the budget, which led to the late 1990´s boom. As D.C. pigs wallow back into fiscal irresponsibility, populists and Progressives have another chance, but can only seize it by focusing on economic solutions rather than the political blame game.

I'm fortunate to live in Iowa, home of the first Presidential primaries. I've seen and heard all of the presidential candidates except Sharpton and Carol MB. Dennis Kucinich is undoubtedly the one that receives the best response from audiences. 1. What makes this guy willing to enter the world of politics - a world which regularly dismisses and disdains heart- centered values? Dennis Kucinich has THE earthy, cardinal sign of Capricorn, associated with government, on the cusp of his 10th house of career. His career will be one that looks for practical solutions to issues effected by government policy. He will take the initiative in proposing alternate policies as corrective measures. His 10th ruler, Saturn, is placed in sunny Leo in his 5th house of creativity and pleasure. Politics is not only his vocation but also his recreation. He is happiest when he is working and is at his most creative when in the political arena. Also,Jupiter, ruler of Kucinich's 9th house of politics, is rising immediately before his Mars. He views politics as the most expedient way of achieving his goals. 2. Can one read Progressivepolitics in a chart? By definition, Progressives must have an interest in obtaining the greatest good for the largest number of people. A concentration of luminaries and/or planets in the West side of the horoscope, especially rulers of the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd houses, indicates the native has a real interest in the well-being of others. Kucinich has all three of these rulers in the 7th, describing how he dedicates his "self," his assets, and his mental energies, to the well-being of others. Dennis Kucinich's Ascendant ruler, Mars, placed in the 7th shows he is willing to put himself in the service of the people. In one speech, he stated, "This is not about 'me,' it's about' we.'" Conservatives,on the other hand, are likely to have an emphasis of planets on the East side of the chart, especially in the first quadrant: houses 1, 2, and 3 but also 10,11, and 12. In order to be a Progressive, one must have a constituency that wants political change. Kucinich's horoscope describes his constituency. They are represented by the planets rising immediately before the Ascendant ruler. They represent the heavenly "entourage" or those marching ahead of this candidate. The cosmic line-up of Neptune, the Sun, Mercury, and Jupiter rising before his Ascendant ruler, Mars, represent those who will help him to be elected. Leading this cosmic entourage is Neptune, representing the show business personalities and spiritual and peace groups that have endorsed Kucinich. (Check out his web site for a listing of these.) There is definitely a spiritual dimension to the Dennis Kucinich campaign. He inspires people with hope and courage for the future. Next is the Sun, ruling the 6th house of labor, which brings him the support of the working classes and labor unions. Kucinich's angular Libra Sun in the 7th manifests in his devotion to world peace. He recently won the endorsement of Star*Pak, one of the oldest peace groups in the US. Last week, he was awarded the Gandhi Peace Award. Mercury is the next leading planet, ruler of the intercepted 6th house and the 3rd house of communications. Kucinich has promised to repeal NAFTA if elected President, restoring jobs to American workers that have been "intercepted" by this organization. Mercury also represents the 3rd house pf educators, transportation and communications workers who will form part of his consitituency. Jupiter is behind Mercury, signifying politicians, religious leaders, lawyers, and those concerned with international matters, especially the war in Iraq. They will all support Kucinich. In addition, Kucinich's loaded 7th house is 2nd from the 6t, describing the resources of those that are sick. Individuals and groups that are suffering from lack of health insurance and medical care will back the Kucinich plan for universal health care. 1. If you were his campaign advisor, which aspects of his chart would you counsel him to put to full use. Hint: he has four planets in Scorpio, a stellium in the 7th, and a tight Saturn, Pluto, Mars configuration. The 7th house stellium was covered above. Mars is separating from Saturn, ruler of the 10, showing the Kucinich talent for following his own progressive political path. This also seems to be his special strength. Mars applying to a square with Pluto in Leo in the 5th describes his stance on nuclear disarmament, also popular with anti-war and peace groups throughout the nation. With four planets in fixed signs, this candidate has staying power.

In one speech, I heard him say, "If you never quit, they can't beat you." Kucinich is as tenacious as he is brilliant: his agile mind is shown by 1) a fast moving Moon and 2) Uranus in Gemini on the cusp of his 3rd house, with the ruler,Mercury, conjunct expansive, benefic Jupiter. His superior oratorical skills are his best campaign asset. It's been said that a Dean supporter is just someone who has not yet heard Kucinich speak. I've heard Kucinich numerous times, both in formal and informal settings. When speaking in forums with other Democratic candidates, he always receives the most enthusiastic response from the audience. In addition, he can think on his feet and gives thoughtful, unscripted answers to complicated questions. Fixed Stars are an important element in the charts of serious political candidates. Kucinich's Sun is parallel Sadalsuud, known as "the Luckiest of the Lucky" and "The Star of Mighty Destiny." Obviously, Dennis J. Kucinich is my candidate of choice. I believe he can win the 2004 Presidential Election

Yes why would he, if it's not blind idealism and selfassertiveness. This guy will always keep on fighting for what he thinks is justice - but too often what is justice to him (libra is not always about you and me, but also me through you). He will be prone to look too subjectively on political matters, not seperating his ego from the matter, ( T-square sun-asc-with MC ) but his well-aspected sun to pluto and uranus makes him intuitive and positive about reforms and implementing them. The strong libra overlay and sun's conjunction with neptune however suggest that he might be both indecisive in mind and cloudy in speech, possibly manipulating his way up the ladder. With this fantasy weapon ( strong neptune and pisces moon ) he might be able to compensate that he is not always able to confronting people and situations openly ( 12th house moon ) Although Librans may be good politicians, nice and diplomatic - this guy might not be detached enough ( pisces moon ) to judge matters in an impersonal way, however giving him some empathy and compassion. Actionpacked 7th house of course makes him always stay in the stride with all his friends and contacts, and never giving up on his heart matters ( aries asc ) The scorpio mars, ruling the ascendant, gives the aggressive and determined style necessary to fight in politics. The scorpio stellium including mercury and jupiter adds tremendous mental power and persistence, even perspective. However the square from the stellium over to the conjunction in Leo 4th house might sometimes hamper his foresightedness on the expense of nostalgics, because with the saturn-pluto conjunction in 4th house he will never forget where he comes from. This would sum up to the answer for question 3: He would need the combination of the fighting persistence and using friends for what they are worth, and finally with his sun-neptune conjunction talking lofty idealism, hypnothizing people into voting for him, making them overlook the fact that he has no earth in him.

1. What makes this guy willing to enter the world of politics?
Mars, ruler of the Asc and exaltation ruler of the 10th, in Scorpio in the 7th conjunct the 8th. He has a personal interest (Asc) in shared resources (8th) and is naturally suspicious (Scorpio) of the way they are being handled by those in authority (10th).
He also has Sun in Fall in Libra in the 7th opposition the Asc; would see other people (7th) mishandling (opposition) authority (Sun) or that important people (Sun in 7th) are inept (Sun in Fall).
These perceptions would drive him to involve himself in matters connected with authority/gov't and shared resources.
2. Can one read Progressive politics in a chart?
I'm not sure one can read 'progressive politics' per se, in the chart. Uranus in the 3rd signifies he is radical in his thinking and in the way he communicates his ideas.
Neptune in the 6th, that he is idealistic about the type of service he expects from government employees. The 6th is also the house of the military; hence, his idealistic "Dept of Peace", an army working for peace, not war.
Saturn, ruling the 10th, in Detriment in Leo in the 4th implies he has a low opinion of those in power (confirmed by the Sun/Asc opposition).
It appears his concern is with misuse of authority and shared resources.
The Moon in the 12th signifies a concern for the sufferings of the general public. Moon is disposited by Jupiter in the 7th conjunct Mars (Asc ruler); he has a desire to work with others to alleviate that suffering and a willingness to do battle for them.
This does not necessarily indicate progressive politics but rather that his concern is not solely for himself.
3. If you were his campaign advisor, which aspects of his chart would you counsel him to put to full use.
The Scorpio stellium holding his Asc ruler implies he'd be very good at ferreting out secrets. Also that he would attract a number of open enemies by doing so. Jupiter ruling the 12th in the 7th also indicates his secret enemies would be brought into the open by his actions in this area.
Ironically, the Moon in the 12th of secret enemies and ruling his 4th is an indication that those that form his base of support work against him; probably unknowinginly (Moon in Pisces).
Would suggest he rely on his own resources and abilities. Especially as Saturn, ruling the 11th of friends, is in Detriment in the 4th. His friends may want to help him but in the end only harm him. Imagine they are pushing him to conform to the accepted notion of how a leader should act; he'd be better off following his own instincts.

Dennis Kucinich - using Hindu astrology
1.) What makes this guy willing to enter politics?
The Sun strongly influences the asc. and 7H. The Sun is the indicator of politics, leadership etc. This same Sun is what Kucinich is fighting, the existing government and status qou, particularly as it is also the 6L. Predictably in 1979 he was forced to leave politics in Merury/Sun dasa due to events around the electric company. This same Sun has also been difficult for marriage.
Using the sidereal zodiac, 3 planets are in political Libra.
The strength in this chart is more from the Moon asc. where Venus is in the 10H with alternative/progressive Ketu. Mars and Venus exchange signs, between the spiritual and valuable 9H and the 10H of position. This is why this period of Venus/Mars is indicating the position and status. Kucinich is a glutton for punishment, with Moon ruler in the 6H, this shows the tremendous opposition, and also his fighting spirit. Things are definately not easy, nor are they going to be.
The yogas in the 8H from the ascendant show an alternative kind of person., into whats usually hidden, energies, transformation, spirituality through crises, reformation. I just feel that there is too many major obstacles and difficulties, that will stand in the way of presidential election. This chart is like a reflection of our times.
I have noticed looking through the biography that Kucinich has connected to politics mostly through Venus and Rahu/Ketu dasas. That is why in this period up until fall '07 is a strong and prime time astrologically for this man to make his difference.
2.) Progressive politics - I would read anything progressive and spiritual from Rahu/Ketu, and the positive aspects of the dusthanas namely 6,8,and 12. Venus, particularly Libra is progressive, as is Mars and Saturn. The 8H is strongly factored in this chart.
£.) I would counsel him to push values, particularly spiritual, as well as alternative and peace issues. I feel he just needs to be himself, and promote the hidden yet predominate spiritual consciousness, and all its knowledge, that is emerging in people individually. I would counsel him on the importance of this forerunning he has taken up, that the torch may be carried a little further by the next candidate, representing truth, that may emerge.
Thanks, Paul
p.s. Saturn in the 5H is also a factor that makes this guy interested in politics and the serious issues. Saturn and Moon exchange signs through Aquarius in the 12H, again consciousness raising and humanitarian. The 6H relates to ecology and healing etc, as well as obstacles.

1. Dennis Kucinich has a life-mission to help the common person meet more than their basic needs. He has his rising sign in warrior Aries and his Moon in Pisce/12th house, combined create a spiritual warrior and his Sun is in Libra, another cardinal sign that yearns to lead the people, in this case leading people to a balance/harmonic place. I go to his 6th house and see Neptune in Libra, again this is a compassionate man who strives for balance and this falls in his house of duty. And Saturn conjunct Pluto falls in his 5th house of creativity signifying that Dennis finds pleasure in politics and he's willing to dig deep through all the fear-driven muck to lead people to a heart-centered place (Pluto). He's willing to put in the effort (Saturn)and his own hardships create more compassion. People often forget that Capricorn can be extremely compassionate. Martin Luther King Jr is just one example.
2. I would assume Aquarius would deal with progressive politics. I see Uranus in Gemini in the communication house (3rd) and his N. Node, where he is heading in this life also falls in Gemini, however, I don't see progressive politics. I am sure that a better astrologer could.
3. I would advise Dennis to take advantage of the stellium in Scorpio and the Pluto-Saturn conjunction because we live in fearful times and so there will be a lot of uncovering secrets, digging into dark places and bringing the American public through a rebirth after which the actual death of the old structure died on 9-11-01. Saturn in Leo as well as, Capricorn MC will make him stand out as a leader in the public eye. The passionate Scorpio can uncover secrets and stand up against the opposition. And the Aries AC also carries Mars energy that will offer warrior-like energy to the process.
But this has got to be balance with peace-loving Libra (Sun, Kiron and Neptune). The Scorpio-Libra combination adds charisma and charm.

This is a visionary, see real compassion but may be seen as "airy fairy" Heavy barrage from "open enemies" probably corporate. Have to be a scrapper. Hidden allies possible. Think this is a chart of a spiritual warrior. His time may have possibly come. If he wins, neo-cons are not going to stand there and grin.

Since he was born early in October, during daylight savings time, why isn't his birth time listed as EDT +4:00? That would make him a Pisces rising, rather than Aries. Pisces seems more in line with his striving for peace.

Thanks for checking! Both the ACS American Atlas and Doris Chase Doane's "Time Changes in the USA" indicate that Cleveland and the rest of Cuyahoga County did not observe daylight time at all in 1946. Therefore Kucinich does have Aries rising. Pat Taglilatelo AstroDatabank Editor

Libra sun and pisces moon... just like me Cheesy. I know why he is the way he is looking at this chart, and having similar placements. This man is a leader not a mere politician. We can see he cares compassionately for society and has his OWN ideas. The individuality shines through with the uranus in the 3rd house. The compassionate interest in society is shown with the ego in 7th libra (which also adds charisma, btw) and the id in 12th house pisces.
Unfortunately, his chart shows a lot of indicators of a man with a lot of ideas but no outlet for follow through. He shows a strong interest in society (7th house stellium, ego in libra), in purifying injustices (scorpio: jupiter mars merc and venus), in leading people into the future (moon in pisces 12th, uranus in 3rd) but there are no placements which would show him capable of actually following through in what he wants for the world. He is too rational, too cooperative, too much of a dreamer/idea man, too interested in dreams, theoreticals and ideas. He is not focused enough on action, which is ESSENTIAL for any revolutionary leader (action is the activator of social change; it is also the unfortunate cause of that famous uranian/aquarian "nervous energy"). He lacks what it takes to grab the reins of humanity and actually FOLLOW THROUGH in his ideas. Too soft, too considerate, too rational, and too dreamy and impractical.
Quite sad, because I related to his policies strongly. I really do feel a connection with the man. I wonder if me being a libra with a pisces moon and uranus in 3rd has anything to do with that Wink...

Nov 6, 2005 Speculative predictions: he will play a more prominent role in the 2008 presidential elections than he did in the 2004 elections. Starting in July or August 2007 he will gain more national recognition. It seems unrealistic to me from the perspective of his current political standing that he could win the nomination and the election, but his chart does seem to support a lot of success and recognition in November 2008 and in the two years following (2009 and 2010). His chart also shows success for a partner at that time, so perhaps he could gain a vice-presidential nomination and election.
From 2010 to 2013 he may focus on relieving the suffering or poverty of the common people.
If any of these speculations actually unfold in national political events, I will provide the astrological logic for them.
