Saturn square Jupiter: A current challenge

End of November 2012 until beginning of September 2013: During this time your opportunities may be curtailed and your freedom of action may be quite limited. Restrictions seem to come from nowhere, and you may have to work very hard just to maintain your accustomed level, let alone improve it. This period can be quite unfavorable financially, especially if you have not been very careful in recent years. It tests how well you have put your life together in almost every area, but especially in matters related to finances and business. You may discover that many aspects of your life cannot withstand real adversity.

Approximately seven years ago, many new activities began in your life. Now they are being tested to see whether they have any real importance in your life. Anything that does not withstand this test should be abandoned or substantially changed. It will be possible to hold on to something that clearly does not work, in spite of opposition from others and restrictions from your surroundings. And if you do that, after this time, it may appear to be working out all right. But that is only because the current challenge is over. However, in about seven years anything you have clung to will be tested again and will cause far more trouble than it does now. In other words, if something isn't working now, let it go!

Typically this influence produces extreme restlessness. Your drive for freedom is relentlessly curbed by the restrictions of this influence, and you feel very strongly that you must break out of these restrictions. You may experience residence changes or the breakup of personal relationships that seem to interfere unduly with your freedom. However these changes are usually just hasty reactions to this influence. You would be much better off to calmly evaluate what is and isn't working in your life and to consciously eliminate the elements that do not work. Don't just react blindly because of frustration.

Saturn opposition Moon: An emotional trial

End of November 2012 until mid-September 2013: This is one of the most emotionally trying influences. It is frequently associated with domestic or professional problems, emotional depression, loneliness, difficulties with women or difficulties with personal relationships, often leading to breakups.

This influence represents an "alienation crisis," that is, a crisis brought about by the discovery that you have been neglecting your emotional and psychological needs. As a result you feel alone and disconnected from others, like an alien in the world whom no one else can ever adequately understand.

To a greater or lesser extent, everyone's life revolves around an overall task or purpose that makes one's life unique. The purpose may be a job, motherhood, fatherhood, some movement that you believe in or anything else that gives you a sense of purpose. Often an alienation crisis occurs when you discover that you have gone too far too fast in pursuit of your life purpose and have neglected your psychological and emotional needs. Perhaps you have neglected your relationships or your domestic life, or you have repressed your feelings. In this way you build up a wall between yourself and others, which makes you feel alone and alienated.

You must make your personal life and your public role or other central purpose work together. That will require changing your lifestyle so that you can pay equal attention to both.

Jupiter conjunction Sun: Exuberant optimism

A transit approaching its end, 26 April 2013, remaining 6 May 2013: Traditionally this is considered one of the most marvelous influences, and indeed it is quite good. At the very least, you will feel good at this time. Your health is good, and you feel very optimistic. For a while it may seem that everything is working out perfectly, and if you make an effort, it will. But if you simply sit back and enjoy this time, its beneficent influence will pass away with little to show for it afterward.

This is the beginning of a new twelve-year cycle of growth in your life. It is a time to initiate new projects and expand your activities so that you can experience life from a broader perspective. You may find that you can escape from some narrowing and inhibiting circumstance that has prevented you from realizing your full potential as a human being. Sometimes people travel under this configuration, but usually the traveling is more in the mind.

This is a good time to study a subject that raises your consciousness or expands your view of the world, and it is an excellent time for going back to school. You may also meet new people who expose you to aspects of life that you have never known before. Your freedom will certainly increase.

Even with this influence there are some pitfalls. First of all, your exuberant optimism can cause you to overdo or overreach yourself, so that when this time is over, you find yourself out on the proverbial limb. Exercise a certain amount of restraint and build upon what you have rather than trying to increase your holdings beyond your ability to handle them. Be careful of extravagance, and if you invest money, remember that today's luck is not permanent.

Jupiter conjunction Neptune: A sense of compassion

A transit approaching its end, 27 April 2013, remaining 7 May 2013: During this time your ideals will be aroused as they seldom are at other times, and you will approach life with a greater sense of compassion. People who cannot help themselves will win your sympathy especially, whether you encounter them personally or through working with others in a charitable enterprise. Your primary concern is to help individuals by giving them a hand. You may be less concerned with transforming the social order that has given rise to the conditions that oppress the people you are dealing with.

Your interest in spiritual, religious and mystical philosophy is likely to grow at this time, and you may become involved in a group that is studying these subjects. This world no longer seems to meet your needs adequately, so you have to turn inward to find a world that can give you what you really need. Here, too, you will discover that the ego's drives for self- gratification and self-assertion may be the major factors in preventing you from getting what you want out of life. At this time the demands of the ego must be quieted at least a little, so you can hear what the inner self is really saying.

Unfortunately there is another side to this influence, which you should watch for. Some people develop a feeling of false happiness, like living in the dream world of an opium smoker, with no basis in reality. You may feel that everything is all right when it is not, or you may feel that you can do anything you want and get away with it. That is why this influence is often associated with gambling or taking risks with limited resources, often with disastrous results. This is not a very good time for investments, not because you will necessarily lose out, but because you just won't know for sure, and you will be tempted to gamble even when it is a poor risk. For the same reason, in business deals be sure you are not the victim of a massive misrepresentation.

With this influence it is best to avoid purely selfish concerns, for when your actions are thus motivated you are most likely to encounter its negative side.

Jupiter conjunction Mercury: Foresight

From 16 May 2013 until 25 May 2013: At this time you are able to combine breadth of vision with sharp perception and intellect, knowledge of the particular with knowledge of the general, and thereby see the whole scope of anything you are involved in. This reveals itself as foresight and long-range planning ability. This is a good time to map out your future, because you can understand and interrelate all the elements that will affect your life.

At the same time, you feel optimistic and proceed with the belief that everything will come out exactly as you want it to. And it probably will, because you don't get completely carried away with grandiose thinking. This influence usually indicates a good balance between details and generality in your thinking, but there is also a tendency to deemphasize the details and not pay adequate attention to them. If you are not careful, this can result in sloppy or hasty thinking. Be sure to slow down somewhat and do not get carried away with your plans. Otherwise, this is an excellent time to make decisions or to conclude any kind of transaction. It is a superb time to buy or sell, because you will almost certainly be satisfied with the deal.

As your mind tries to expand, you will want to learn more and more. This is a good time for returning to school, but even on a less formal level you will be anxious to learn. You may even travel long distances with this aim in mind. Any dealings with the law should prove to be quite fortunate for you now. You will prepare for such a confrontation skillfully, leaving no loose ends to trip you up.

Communications with others are exceedingly fortunate under this influence. Your optimism and positive state of mind bring you good news from others concerning matters of importance. At the same time, everything that you say to others is very positive and reinforcing, which leaves good feelings behind you wherever you go.

Uranus sextile Pluto: New birth

End of May 2013 until beginning of February 2015: This influence will bring about many far- reaching but constructive changes in your life. You will encounter the deepest elements of your own consciousness, and you will have an unprecedented opportunity to understand your innermost workings. Therefore this is an excellent time for beginning psychotherapy or becoming involved in any of the various human potential movements.

Your concerns at this time are not superficial ones. You will be concerned with the issues that make your life what it is. Under this influence you have opportunities to make the most fundamental and far-reaching changes in your life. Your values will change, as will your objectives in life. At its deepest manifestation, this influence can signify a period of new birth, especially if the last few years have been difficult.
