This report is a short edition of your and your partner's
It is meant as a sample and advertisement for the full version of the Partner Horoscope which can
ordered from Astrodienst as a downloadable E-Horoscope of about 20 - 30 pages.
In the short edition only a few but nevertheless important aspects of the composite chart are
considered. The short version concentrates more on the positive aspects of this relationship.
Sun in the Twelfth House
Composite Sun in the twelfth house is a significant position, but it presents challenges that
many people find difficult to deal with.
It indicates that through this relationship both of you will encounter aspects of your inner
selves that you would normally keep hidden from yourselves as well as from others.
The most difficult result of this Sun placement is that it may make the relationship self-
defeating for both of you, particularly if you are not completely honest with each other. Unless
you disclose all secrets, they will cause one or both of you to behave in a way that will
undermine not only the relationship but your own self-esteem as well.
In any personal relationship, this placement demands that you thoroughly search your innermost
selves to understand how previously hidden psychological traits are operating within the
relationship. This encounter will make each of you grow as individuals, and the growth it can
bring about is more important than your survival as a couple.
Sun Conjunct Moon
With Sun conjunct Moon in the composite chart, the two of you will have a single-mindedness of
purpose that is usually lacking in other relationships. This aspect is especially good in the
chart of a love relationship. It indicates that you are truly complementary partners.
Your relationship has the potential for bringing something new into the world. This position
indicates that you are somehow more complete as a partnership than as individuals.
Sun Conjunct Venus
The conjunction of Sun and Venus in the composite chart is one of the strongest indications of a
love relationship between two people, even in a friendship. It does not primarily indicate a
sexual relationship; instead it signifies love, pure and simple. The attraction indicated by this
aspect is so powerful that it can bring together people who are incompatible by ordinary
If the relationship is laden with conflicts, even a strong feeling of love between you may turn
to hatred. In most cases, however, this will be a very fine personal relationship.
Sun Opposition Jupiter
Sun opposition Jupiter in the composite chart has very strong potentials for your relationship,
but to get the most out of them will require some effort. You will have very high ideals about
what your relationship should be and will not readily settle for less.
The danger of this opposition is that in demanding so much of each other, neither is able to give
easily to the relationship. On the other hand you may come to understand the best way for you to
grow and realize your ideals together is to help each other rather than simply make demands. This
positive side of the aspect should make you grow as people far more rapidly together than you
Moon in the Twelfth House
The composite Moon in the twelfth house requires the two of you to do a great deal of work that
most couples are unwilling to do.
With this house position of the Moon, the greatest danger is emotional dishonesty at the very
least and sometimes open and outright dishonesty.
The need here is for both of you to plunge into the relationship, find out the truth of what is
going on, and face it squarely and honestly.
If you don't seek out the truth, your relationship will give you the feeling that you have been
defeated in life by forces you don't understand. And when the repressed feelings finally do
emerge, they will explode destructively. If, however, these feelings gradually emerge from an
honest search for understanding, the wisdom you gain will make you much wiser than people who
haven't had to face such a challenge.
Note: The Moon is technically near the end of house 11 and is therefore interpreted in house 12.
Moon Conjunct Venus
The conjunction of composite Moon and composite Venus is a most positive aspect for any personal
relationship. It indicates a strong feeling of love between you that you will express openly.
The relationship may even have something of a dreamy quality, as if it were too beautiful to be
The basic inner strength of this relationship should be great enough to overcome all but the
In general, this is one of the most positive and useful aspects that a composite chart can have
for a successful personal relationship.
Moon Opposition Jupiter
The opposition of the composite Moon and composite Jupiter may bring the two of you together even
though you are quite different, but it also provides the energy for you to adjust to each other.
An opposition is an active aspect, which means that the two of you will have to be active
Sometimes with this aspect there is a compulsion to be "happy-go-lucky" all the time. You may be
reluctant to deal with serious concerns that you should be facing together.
Mercury Conjunct Ascendant
The conjunction of composite Mercury and Ascendant signifies a relationship in which
communication and shared ideas are very important.
Fortunately, you are not likely to fall into rigid patterns of behavior in this relationship. The
two of you will seek as many varied experiences as possible, but you will tend not to go into any
of them very deeply.
Shallowness is the most negative characteristic of Mercury. Although you may cover a lot of
ground in your experiences together, you often only skim the surface.
Do not let superficiality deprive the two of you of deep emotional experiences together.
Venus in the Twelfth House
Composite Venus is one of the least difficult planets to have in the twelfth house.
This placement signifies that while you may have strong feelings of affection for each other, you
may not be demonstrative about them. Other people may not even be aware of how you feel about
each other. The twelfth-house Venus can be a sign of a secret relationship.
Your relationship may be influenced to a considerable degree by unconscious factors in both of
you. It may be difficult to understand the dynamics of this relationship. This can be either
good or bad, of course, depending on what you do. In any case, you should try to understand what
lies behind your relationship.
On the clearly positive side, this placement can help both of you overcome your ego-drives within
the relationship. You are able to think of yourselves as a unit and to subordinate your personal
interests to your interests as a couple.
Venus Opposition Jupiter
This Venus-Jupiter aspect is one of the easiest oppositions, for it creates a strong attraction
between the two of you. The only difficulty to watch for is that sometimes you may not get
exactly what you expect from the relationship or from the other person.
A personal relationship benefits the most from this aspect, for it signifies feelings of warmth
and affection between two people.
Even when you disagree or when you get into a friendly, kidding kind of competitiveness, you will
retain your basically good feelings for each other.
The Composite horoscope is a symbolic chart, derived mathematically and never represented by a
real planetary configuration on the sky. For all planetary pairs, for example both Suns in the
natal charts of the partners, the Composite Sun is determined as the mid-point in between. Also
the MC (Medium Coeli or cusp of the 10th house) is determined by this mid-point technique. So far
all astrologers proceed the same way to get a Composite.
For finding the Ascendant and the other house cusps in a chart two different techniques are used.
One school of thought, also adhered to by Liz Greene and other staff members at Astrodienst,
computes the Ascendant and the other house cusps with the same mid-point technique. In the very
rare case of an Ascendant falling into the west half of the chart, which is the wrong side, the
Ascendant is corrected by 180 degrees, so that it comes to lie in the east half where is must
The other wide spread school of thought uses a table of houses for the Ascendant. First a
fictious birth time is derived from the mid-point MC, then for this time the Ascendant and other
house cusps are read from the table. Because house table entries vary by geographical latitude,
the latitude of a reference place is used here. The geographical longitude (east/west location)
of the reference place is not taken into account, so that Naples, Italy and New York, NY result
in the same Composite chart, because both cities are near 40 degrees northern latitude. The
technique is called reference-place technique.
In his book 'Planets in Composite' Robert Hand describes both methods; we have decided to use the
mid-point method with AstroText Partner, because the Relationship Horoscope by Liz Greene also
uses this technique and many readers might be unnecessarily confused if we offered two kinds of
partner horoscopes containing different Composite ascendants.
Mercury and Venus can sometimes have an unnatural position in the Composite Chart. In nature,
Mercury is never more than 30 degrees from the Sun, Venus never more than 45 degrees. In the
Composite, however, each of the two planets can also be in opposition to the Sun. In such cases,
some Astrologers mirror the planet into the opposite sign. Robert Hand takes into consideration
both possible positions. Our Astrodienst reports follow the method of Liz Greene, who does not do
such a mirroring.
