Chart of the moment |
A horoscope is a snapshot of a single moment in our solar system as seen from a geocentrical point of view. Actually the luminaries and planets are not fixed but constantly rotating. These rotations can be translated into different swinging systems, amongst others into acoustically recognisable sounds. Already in the year 1619 the great astrologer and astronomer Johannes Kepler wrote a book about "Harmonices mundi" (Latin: The Harmony of the World). At present the swiss musicologist and astrologer Hans Cousto does pioneering research on planetary swinging cycles.
One comparatively easy way of translating planetary cycles into acoustic effects is the transformation of angle relations between planets into sounds. The team of akustik-clock.de has actually developed such a software that shows these relations audio-visually on the web. In teamwork with Tobias Krug of akustik-clock.de the Astrodienst webteam has created their own version of the akustik-clock. It shows the mundane planetary aspects and the mundane planets aspecting the personal horoscope. You can find these two sound horoscopes in our "Extended Chart Selection" under "Methods". Click on "Special charts". At the bottom of this page you will also find a direct link.
The length of the zodiac is imagined as the virtual string of an instrument. This string supplies the tonic keynote.
Two celestial bodies are "playing" at a time on the string. They compose a sound when forming an aspect (astrological angle). In case of two planets aligning on 0° respectively 360° the tonic keynote is playing.
When standing opposite by an angle of 180° the celestial bodies "play" an octave.
It is always the longer part of the string that is playing. When the planets are forming an aspect of 90° - which is an astrological square (first quarter), the sound of 270° is playing (last quarter). These aspects divide the length of the zodiac - the string - into one fourth and three-fourths. The tone of the 270° aspect is a quart (musical interval).
As soon as the octave is completed the scale goes back to the tonic keynote. The same applies to every other planetary aspect. The 120°/trigon and 240° aspect counts as a quint on the scale. The stock of tones depends on the amount of aspects in use. The movement goes up and down like a wave forming the tunes of the time.
The planetary music is composed by the cosmos but the sound is manufactured by human beings.

Please do consider: You need a current version of Flash Player on your computer to watch the sound horoscope. This software is usually installed on most computers. In case the sound horoscope doesn't pop up, please follow the link to update your computer with Flash Player.
The
sound is based on the planetary constellations of the current time - i.e. the
mundane constellations. The planetary movement is displayed in fast motion,
i.e. through multiple duplication. Thus it is made sensible for human perception.

This version displays the sound of the mundane planets when making an aspect to planets in your personal horoscope. The personal horoscope is determining the tune of the time. Each planetary couple is composed with one of the "immobile" planets of the personal horoscope and one of the "mobile" planets rotating around the sun in a given time.

The project www.akustik-clock.de has originated the planetary music. It has been realised 2002 by Tobias Krug and Brian Cranford who have been driven by the idea of illustrating time. They developed the Flash program which creates the sound of the planets and displays it graphically.
Astrodienst is grateful for the allowance to use the program of akustic-clock.de on their website www.astro.com. Special thanks go to Tobias Krug for the seminal teamwork during the integration and modification of the acoustic clock to the requirements of www.astro.com.
The
planetary music is also offered in alternative settings. You can either choose
a different tonic keynote, accentuate certain relations or vary the speed.
Samples of individual settings are available on www.planeten-musik.de.
