Dates hold significance in our lives because they demarcate personal occasions such as the birthdays of loved ones. Of greater magnitude are dates that impact vast groups of people. These include the inception dates (birth markers) of nations along with the specific days when wars began and ended. Events of magnitude like assassinations of beloved leaders, earthquakes, tornadoes, and hurricanes are also remembered by their birthdays. Adding to this list, the astute astrologer can point out the critical, albeit covert dates woven into the filaments of time. When these go unnoticed it is at humanity’s peril. I have selected 7 such stellar junctures. Each has laid its imprint onto time and catalyzed events of profound significance to humanity. This is part of an untold history: one that’s only known to stellar seers.
Since it would burden a brief article to turn the pages too far back on this mysterious thing called time, I have set my celestial sights on the past 100-years. It’s a useful interval for such a discussion given the fact that within the span of ten decades, a number of very potent cycles recur. When we look to the nature of events spawned by these predictable intervals, we recognize meaningful correspondences.
We begin our journey through cosmic time by looking to the charged interval of the 1930s. Few readers need to be reminded of the several abominable trends that dominated that decade. First, with the crash of Wall Street occurring in 1929, it was during the 1930s that privation spread far and wide. Those of us with parents or grandparents who lived through that era no doubt heard cautionary tales.
As tends to prove the historical case, when finances become impossibly restricted for the vast majority and working does not secure a family’s security or daily bread, vast swells of anger build up. Germany’s population suffered from many post W.W.I privations, and it was largely this loss of both pride and the general citizenry’s access to necessary resources that psychologically lit the fuse for W.W.II.
Another important historical event characterizing the 1930s was the Dust Bowl syndrome that turned Oklahoma’s (and other states’) farmlands into arid wastelands suffering widely occurring dust storms.
I begin my discussion with the 1930s because three key astrological cycles that are now underway also were dominant during that earlier era. Both periods featured a potent cardinal cross. Since Uranus was involved, we’ll take a look at this firebrand first. Uranus transited Aries, the sign of personal independence, self-interest, and potential war from April 1, 1927 (minus: November 5, 1927-January 13, 1928 when it went retrograde back into Pisces for a brief stay) until June 6, 1934.
Once again, Uranus has returned to Aries and began its journey through the sign of the ram on May 29, 2010. Uranus will remain in Aries until May 16, 2018. Tensions once again rear in Europe largely on account of Austerity programs that have been enforced (as well as engineered) by the Big Banks. One needn’t be an astrologer to notice that when the pie is cut into ridiculously thin slices with only crumbs left to go around, old tribal divisions again become pronounced. Tribes are pitted against other tribes and ancient battle wounds recapitulate.
In the 1930s, Neptune--known for blurring the truth--passed through Virgo, the sign opposite to its native domain and zone of natural expression. It was during Neptune’s transit of Virgo that scientists became fascinated with chemicals including those designed to break down the human mind. Nazi scientists were using a variety of chemicals, along with trauma to wipe out memory. Plus the German S.S. also proved adept at wiping out conscience on a massive scale through its skillful use of incendiary, incessant streams of propaganda. This era fueled the popular misconception that succeeded in poisoning and adulterating so much of the natural world leaving virtually no ecosystem untouched: it’s Better living through chemistry.
Neptune’s transit of Virgo began on September 22, 1928 and held until October 4, 1942 with the exception of its brief return (retrograde) to Leo from February 20, 1919 until July 25, 1929. Since Neptune’s orbit is 165 years, it reaches the half-way point to oppose itself after 82-83 years. Note how closely that ties in with Uranus’ established 84-year orbit around the sun.
Triggering themes from the 1930s, Neptune recently began making a rare transit of its own assigned kingdom, Pisces. And just look at all the chemicals awash in not only our rivers, but also tainting the PH-balance of entire oceans leaving coral reefs—hatchery for all forms of marine life—bleached and dying.
Since our understanding of the planetary personae derive from mythology, it’s not hard to imagine Poseidon--as god returned to his sea kingdoms after a long voyage away. What would he behold? Dead zones surrounding entire continents, an isle of plastic as big as Rhode Island marooned out in the Pacific like some kind of floating plastic dump, and a wide-scale decimation of precious marine life… amazing species that took countless eons to ecologically form.
Recently reported on Democracy Now was the telling statistic that the 3rd most widely prescribed drugs right now are anti-depressants. I view this phenomena as deliberate social engineering since it’s more than obvious that matters are depressing. How could they prove otherwise when corporate elites once again freeze wages while driving up costs of living? So-called Compassionate Conservatives appear to delight in spreading misery and despair far and wide.
It’s stated in Biblical Scripture that the most potent tool in Satan’s arsenal (or that of evil, personified) is deception. Few astrologers would dispute the fact that Neptune, ruler of Pisces, serves as the Zodiac’s chief purveyor of that very thing. Since the development of radio and more so, television, an incredibly potent tool for mass mind control has been put into place. High tech wizards know how to use buzzwords, patterns of color, and vibrational frequencies to simulate in viewers, a state of hypnosis. From that state, all sorts of suggestions can be planted into the collective consciousness. Mass media facilitates Goebbels’ magic as the lie told often indeed is too often believed.
The last of the 3 giants to complete the 1930s redux pattern is Pluto, god of life and death, endings that eventuate in new beginnings, and potential wide-scale destruction. Where up until relatively recently Mars was content to work with guns and cannons, the discovery of Pluto coincided with the introduction of weapons of mass destruction: atomic bombs and so forth. Pluto, viewed by some astrologers as the upper octave to Mars took war to a whole new and diabolical level. Oppenheimer rightly stated, I am become death when viewing the capabilities of Pluto’s firepower unleashed.
Although Pluto’s orbit of 248 years hardly suggests that it could currently oppose the position it held during the 1930s, on account of this planet’s elliptical trajectory, it spent an exceptionally long time in Cancer, but made up the difference spending approximately 13 years in the consecutive signs of Virgo, Leo, Libra, and Scorpio.
Pluto entered Cancer on September 11, 1912 and remained there until August 4, 1938. Minus a brief retrograde phase, essentially Pluto spent 26 years in Cancer to thereby mark more than one generation and millions of people.
Currently, Pluto is half-way through its transit of authoritarian Capricorn. In other words, it’s opposing the position it held during the 1930s. This time the square to Uranus is coming from the other side of the Zodiac. Across the world under the guise of fighting terrorism, governments are tightening the nooses on their own citizens, surveilling them, and rolling back precious Civil Liberties. Pluto began its transit of Capricorn on January 27, 2008 and will remain there until March 24, 2023. (It will briefly return to the goat’s camp in retrograde motion: June 12, 2023 until January 22, 2024.)
The trio composed of these 3 outer planets is re-activating lessons that should have been learned in the earlier period: the 1930s. Impacting both periods was the volatile square formed between Uranus-Aries and Pluto (either in Cancer or Capricorn). Indeed, this dynamic has recurred 7 times since it first showed up in July 2011 (using an orbit of 1-degree on the 90-degree square angle).
Amplifying, or should I say capitalizing on Capricorn’s innate fear factor, Pluto now tightens the reins on human rights from its current position. However, events of this magnitude could not occur without a back story. Before today’s controls could be put into place, the legal, ideological, and logistical infrastructure first had to be laid. That’s where Pluto’s current mutual reception with Saturn plays off an earlier event: a covert alignment that took precedence more than 20 years ago. At that time, Saturn transited its own sign Capricorn, while Pluto gained enormous secret powers while transiting its own sign-kingdom, Scorpio. The earlier Saturn-Pluto linkup spanned: February 14, 1988-February 7, 1991.
Scorpio, sign of Hades’ underworld connotes spies; and Capricorn, as personified by the likes of J. Edgar Hoover, Rush Limbaugh, and Richard Nixon, loves paternalistic shows of absolute authority. Citizens, treated like children, are compelled to obey narrow, strict creeds. When this pair locks into place, woe to any ideals of liberty! Often there are distinctive rollbacks on women’s rights, workers’ rights, environmental protections, and the sovereignty of the Black Community.
Fortunately, Saturn and Pluto will not return to their current mutual reception (from which to jointly thwart human liberties) for another 2 centuries! Meanwhile, this power-hungry pair has indeed cast its inverted totalitarian shadow over the world and its citizens.
Let’s move ahead to May, 1940 for another star performance on our list. That’s when a major stellium occurred in Taurus. Major players included Jupiter and Saturn, ambassadors of the Great Conjunction. During 1940 this dynamic duo was accompanied by Uranus, the wild card player. Where Saturn leans towards conservative politics, religion, economics and ideology, Jupiter signifies liberals. As many astute voters of America now recognize, it is largely the interplay between America’s two established parties that keeps a status quo in place that has slid increasingly to the right since the election of Ronald Reagan in 1980. (Britain had his soul-mate, Margaret Thatcher at the wheel during that same era.)
What tends to happen when two forces operate in polarity is irreconcilable opposition. The tension produced by the pair manages to keep existing systems in place. Enter Uranus, the maverick, to act as rule-buster, iconoclast, inventor, innovator, and enemy to the status quo.
What a strange trio they made! And since May reliably brings the sun and new Moon to Taurus, half the Zodiac at that time occupied the sign of the bull. Interestingly enough, during May, 2000 Jupiter again joined forces with Saturn in Taurus. The pair was accompanied by a compelling cast of co-starring planets. It was not lost on this astrologer that this powerful Taurus stellium linked to Venus, Earth Mother, saw for-profit DNA research companies just then winning copyright to genes! The Supreme Court recognized the primacy of property rights over nature’s vital elements, or life itself. Effectively, this ruling commoditized nature to thereby enslave all that belongs to Earth Mother-Venus-Taurus-Demeter. This decision was on a par with that of the Inquisition in expunging women’s rights and their practice of nature-based religions. That’s what the Middle Ages witch-hunts were about, at their core.
An interesting parallel between 1940 and 2000 is that the first McDonalds opened on May 15, 1940. Today’s biogenetic revolution in food is strongly fueled by the Fast Food industries.
Jupiter, known for broad thinking and applying the power of faith, metaphorically resonates with the New Testament. Saturn, associated with conservation and the adage that: as ye reap, ye sow resonates with the law of karma/cause and effect, and the Bible’s Old Testament.
Comparing Jupiter’s 12 year orbit to Saturn’s 29 year orbit, one sees that the pair is destined to meet at the mid-point: reliable 20-year intervals. Since 1860, with the exception of the pair’s congress in Libra in 1980, all of these Great Conjunctions have taken place in Earth Signs. This is significant since the Bible’s basic teachings form the ideological infrastructure of modern Western law as brought to the U.S. from Europe. So it’s fair to say that Jupiter and Saturn qualify as the Law and Order planets.
The sign in which they meet influences the way that law will be codified and interpreted over the span of that 20-year interval, or until the pair meets up again. Fortunately, their next congress is due right on the opening cusp to Aquarius at winter solstice in 2020.
The Great conjunction occurring twice in Taurus (both in 1940 and again in 2000) explains why global capital has come to wield so great an influence over foreign and domestic policy. The dominant role of global banking grants bankers an inordinate say over too many processes and protocols that affect countless citizens. Just take a look at Greece—the cradle of Democracy’s status today!
Looking to the interval of February 14, 1988-February 7, 1991 when Saturn transited Capricorn and Pluto transited Scorpio, the path was paved for today’s Draconian rollbacks on Civil Liberties, The Rule of Law, Constitutional protections, and even the Geneva Conventions. I sought to tie these planetary positions to the Inquisition, the witch hunts, and The Crusades: eras where authority figures enslaved the masses and used vile forms of coercion to enforce obedience and conformity to strict rules.
Unfortunately, these earlier pogroms spanned so many decades that it’s impossible to tie them to any particular planetary transit. The one thing that did stand out was the frequency with which Saturn was found transiting Aquarius. Saturn’s penchant for authoritarian control apparently clamps down on Truth (along with those bold enough to express it) during transits across Aquarius. Perhaps Uranus had less agency in those earlier periods since the planet had not yet been formerly discovered. Something synchronistic occurs when a planet is recognized. Until Uranus’ discovery, the masses had no direct access to the spirit of human independence along with that of individualistic originality. As astrologers argue, the discovery of the outer planets synergistically liberates new portions of human sentience.
Saturn last transited Aquarius from: February 6, 1991-May 20, 1993 but the conservative furor amassed steam once Neptune began its transit of Capricorn in 1984. I think that date warrants a nod to George Orwell. After all, that’s when the planet of deception began a once in 165-year journey across the sign associated with government and top-down hierarchal orders. Neptune had 14 years to weave government lies into full-scale, widely held deceptions. It was largely during the 1980s that Reagan’s chants against government added to Margaret Thatcher’s insistence that there is no society opened the way to all-out corporate graft: enter the era of deregulation. As Janine Wedel points out in her book on Shadow Elites, frameworks were put in place that allowed private entities to fulfill formerly government-run functions; and the chain of meaningful accountability was therein lost. This freed industries to exploit the planet in unimaginably rabid ways. Profits were consigned to a few privileged powerbrokers, while costs were externalized to citizens.
Not having merged since 1940, Saturn and Uranus again met at 29-degrees of Sagittarius and rapidly crossed together into Capricorn like two Tango dancers ensconced in each other’s auras. This congress convened from February 13-26, 1988. And that time, instead of Saturn and Uranus meeting with Jupiter, the third wheel turned out to be Neptune. Indeed all 3 planets worked together to radically shift government functions. With Big Money increasingly running the show, in the U.S. both political parties quickly demonstrated homage to corporate titans’ wishes. Washington, D.C. became the Mecca for corporate lobbyists.
That takes us to the next significant stellar event: a solar eclipse occurring in Capricorn on January 15, 1991… just when President Bush, Sr. started the first war in Iraq! Eclipses are quite karmic; and since Capricorn’s ruling planet Saturn happens to be widely regarded as the Zodiac’s undisputed arbiter of karma, events unleashed at that time promise powerful reverberations.
The fruit drawn from the tragic Iraqi war will show its harvest when Saturn returns to this same position in 2020 (fulfilling its 29-year Saturn Return cycle).
When did major governments become wholescale subsidiaries of Big Business? The line-up of Uranus, Saturn, and Neptune all crossing Capricorn beginning in 1988 surely suggests an undeniable marker. Nor has the trigger lit by the Capricorn eclipse of January 15, 1991 yet gone out. The Middle East, starting with Iraq… has been bludgeoned into pieces. Millions of refugees now seek solace in Europe; and once again, jingoism rears. The Middle East wars have destroyed cities and vital infrastructure, and left grieving innocents to cope with a deadly nightmare.
Our next vital date-event began on May 22, 1993 and held until April 8, 1996. It consisted of a mutual reception set between Saturn in Pisces and Neptune in Capricorn. Here the planet of business, authority, and government structures (Saturn) crossed wires with the planet of deception, subterfuge, and counterfeits (Neptune).
By this time, Bill Clinton congenially fused both political parties into one entity loyal to the corporate titans. NAFTA came into being with the promise that it would create jobs and lift all financial ships. In reality, it vacuum- suctioned good jobs (like those at the General Motors plant in Detroit, Michigan… now a failed city as documented by Michael Moore in his film: Roger and Me) south of the border.
Mr. Clinton worked in cahoots with Republican Phil Graham to eviscerate the regulatory framework (Glass-Steagall Act) that was painstakingly put into place after the Great Depression to ensure that banks would never again speculate with the public’s money or teachers’ pensions, and so forth. Enter The Crash. For homeowners losing massive amounts of home equity, certainly this collapse qualified as a second Great Depression. However, by this time bankers held major clout and with it, control over lawmakers. They deftly engineered a redistribution of wealth that would qualify as a crime against humanity were law still serving The People… rather than the 1%. Trillions of dollars were printed (and thus decoupled from actual earnings) and handed over to big banks. It was the public that picked up the bad bets on the new Casino-capitalism style economy with impacts felt across the entire globe.
Mass media was also deregulated to effectively render The Fairness Act null and void. How better to follow Noam Chomsky’s admonishment then by manufacturing consent. Currently, six major broadcast empires own and control all U.S. television content. Most of these entities also own significant shares of newspaper, publishing, and radio networks. This concentration of ownership significantly narrows the public’s access to any information that falls outside of that which suits the interests of these empowered media corporations (along with that of their big ticket advertising friends).
Next on our list of vital dates is another key mutual reception: This one was set between Uranus, the champion of novel technology… especially of the sort that relays communications and knowledge (since Uranus rules Aquarius, last expression of the air sign trinity) and Neptune, the planet of imagination. When Neptune, via one of its two opposing fish operates in accord with its higher mandate, it can usher in mystical states of oneness along with the realization that we all swim in the same great cosmic sea. In other words, we all are connected. This understanding brings to mind the words of Christ, avatar of the Piscean Age: Whatsoever you do unto the least of these, you do unto me.
Uranus and Neptune formed their mutual reception from March 11, 2003 until March 12, 2011 (discounting the period when Uranus moved retrograde back into Aquarius from September 16 until December 31, 2003). Basically with high-tech Uranus transiting Pisces just as dreamy, visionary Neptune transited the high tech electronic world of Uranus, the worldwide web came into full force to serve as a ubiquitous presence. Conversations rapidly went global, and the web facilitated a cross –pollination of cultures. Wider circulation of ideas played a major role in everything from The Arab Spring to Spain’s rising Indignados.
Last on our ever evolving list is the current mutual reception set between Saturn-Scorpio and Pluto-Capricorn. This configuration spanned from October 6, 2012-December 24, 2014; and will recur from: June 16- September 18, 2015.
This duo is granted cosmic support direct from nefarious Neptune as it crosses its home-zone, Pisces. In ways more than metaphorical, these powerhouse planets have temporarily placed Aquarius, the sign of Truth (along with each human being’s right to march to their own drummer) into the big squeeze.
When I contemplate the vast insults, assaults, and injustices of the present era, I recall that Creator designed a plan for the evolution of souls, and it’s timed to the orderly flow of cosmic clockworks. This design plan shows that the repressions destined to recur during phases where controlling Capricorn obtains temporal dominion ultimately generate massive energetic releases in the form of revolution, major invention, and other perturbations destined to vitally shift the status quo.
As the pressure rises along political, social, and economic lines, long-sleeping volcanoes also happen to be letting loose. Edgar Cayce, America’s Sleeping Prophet was noted for his trance readings. In them he spoke often about coming earth changes. Cayce specified that when the ring of fire was lit (as indeed is currently the case), it would signal an uptick in climate change and major geological shifts.
I’d like to close my discussion by passing on the wise words that Yogananda offered to a United Nations’ audience back in 1949. At that time, heads of state, exhausted from war and tasked with repairing their devastated lands were prepared to listen to the kind of spiritual wisdom that never goes out of style… but tends to be ignored during good times.
With key planetary patterns tied to the 1930s again recurring, and prior events having led to a massive World War; it’s imperative that the higher teachings become widely understood and embraced. They offer humanity a crucial course correction, one that will offset the habit for war… as brought on by deadly hubris and narrow-minded thinking on the part of Machiavellian leaders.
Here is Yogananda’s timeless advice as taken from “A World In Transition”
Partial dissolution of the world is brought on by the evil activities of people in general. It we all begin to fight with explosives, by this direct action we can reduce drastically the extent of civilization. And maybe if we work hard enough, we can dissolve this world, too! God has given man the power of destruction as well as the power of creation. We have made the world beautiful, and we have the power to destroy it.
When we desecrate the world, the environment undergoes a violent change which is called partial dissolution. Such upheavals have occurred many times—one example if Noah’s flood. These partial dissolutions are due to the wrong actions and ignorant errors of mankind.
Everything that has happened throughout the ages is recorded in the ether. The vibrations of evil that mankind leaves in the ether upset the normal harmonious balance of the earth. When the earth becomes very heavy with disease and evil, these etheric disturbances cause the world to give way to earthquakes, floods, and other natural disasters.
Peace, as founded upon a new universal ideal of friendship is what the transition into a more advanced and enlightened age (Aquarius) calls for.
May peace guide all hearts.
