Biography

American film and TV actor, best known for his role as the patient, wise and kind father on the TV series "Father Knows Best." He epitomized the healer with his bedside manner in "Marcus Welby, M.D." Young represented an idealized world that is a lovely fantasy, both insofar as his TV portrayals and in his personal life. He was troubled by alcohol and depressions much of his life, trying to end his life once with carbon monoxide poisoning.

With a bad heart and recovering from his surgery, he died of old age on 7/21/1998, 9:15 PM PDT, at his home in Westlake Village, CA.
