American Apostle, prophet and second President of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (Mormons). Young claims to have received visions from Jesus with instructions on leadership of the Mormon religion. When Joseph Smith was murdered, Young took charge, avoiding religious prosecution by leading the Mormon settlers to the "land of the Messiah," now known as the Salt Lake City valley. Establishing a stronghold, he became a renowned leader of the church with Salt Lake City known as the capital of the Mormon religion.
Young was said to have had 17 wives and 56 kids as polygamy was allowed among church members. He died 8/29/1877 Salt Lake City, UT.
