Biography
American politician, lawyer, member of the State Assembly and Mayor of Los Angeles. Passing the California Bar in 1939, he started out in private practice and moved into the State Assembly 1936-1940 and 1949-1950. Elected Mayor of Los Angeles 1961-1973.
In his military service he was a Captain in the USAF 1942-1945.
He married 12/01/1938; one son. Yorty died following a stroke, 6/05/1998 in his town of L.A, he was 88.
