Biography

American figure skater, World Champion in 1991 and 1992, she won the Olympic gold medal in 1992.

With sweet demeanor and grace, Yamaguchi charmed her way into the hearts of her audiences while her skating skills captured the votes of the judges. Underneath that lovely smile is great perseverance and hard work.

Yamaguchi was born with club feet was required to wear casts and special shoes when still a baby. Her parents encouraged her to exercise by skating and dancing in order to build strength. By 1987 she had won two junior championships and began to appear in news stories and magazines.

She has continued to skate and make guest appearances. In 1996 she established a foundation for children called "Always Dream." She married Bret Hedican on July 8, 2000 and gave birth to her first child, daughter Keara, on October 1, 2003 in Raleigh, NC. Their second child Emma Yoshiko was born on November 17, 2005, also in Raleigh.

In early 2008 she debuted on TV's popular series "Dancing with the Stars" where she competes with other stars who are each paired with professional dancers.
