Biography
American pro baseball pitcher, selected right out of high school by the Cincinnati Reds organization in the seventh round of free-agent draft pick 6/07/1982. Witt didn't sign with the Reds and enrolled in Oklahoma State, being honored with the Right-handed Pitcher Award on the college All-American team in 1985. He was then selected by the Texas Rangers in the first round free-agent draft pick 6/03/1985. Placed on the disabled list, he did his rehabilitation in the AAA League playing for Oklahoma City. Witt has signed with the Oakland Athletics, the Florida Marlins, back to the Rangers 12/24/1995 and was granted free agency 10/27/1997.
Statistically, he has led the A.L. in wild pitches in 1986 and '88, but on a positive note has pitched a 4-0 one-hit, complete-game victory over Kansas City, 6/23/1994 and he was a member of the U.S. Olympic baseball team in 1984. Witt has played in the American League for 12 years and the National League for one year as of 1998, pitched for three innings in the Division Series game in 1996 and one inning in the Championship Series game in 1992. At 6'2", 205 lbs., he throws right and bats right.
