Biography

American bandleader and accordion player who had his own TV show from 1955-1982 on ABC and, in 1953, was nominated for a TV Emmy as the most outstanding male performer. His music became known as "champagne" because of his annual New Year's ball. He retained a loyal popularity with middle-Americana, especially seniors.

After Welk's death on 5/17/1992, Santa Monica, CA, his orchestra continued under the direction of accordionist Myron Floren.
