Biography
Austrian-Hungarian conductor and composer who conducted the Royal Symphony in Berlin from 1891-1907, also performed in posts in Munich, Darmstadt and the Vienna Conservatory. In addition, he conducted often in America, excelling with Beethoven and Listz in his customary sparing gestures. Weingartner began conducting opera in 1884.
A prolific composer, his works include seven operas, six symphonies, overtures, choral works, chamber music and songs. He also was the author of books on music and conducting.
Weingartner was married five times.
He died on 5/07/1942, Vienna, Austria.
