Biography

American First Lady, the wife of U.S. President George Washington ,1758. She was the widow of a wealthy planter, Daniel Custis, 1749. She had four kids with Custis; two of whom died in infancy. As a protective mother, she was grieved by the loss of her other two kids in 1773 and 1781.

As the wife of George Washington, she was a popular hostess of the New York capital's fetes and teas.

Washington died on 5/22/1802, Mt. Vernon, VA of "a fever" lasting 17 days. Knowing the end was near, she organized all arrangements for her funeral.
