Biography
American singer, songwriter and guitarist who was noted, from the late '60s, as one of pop music's most piquant satirists. As a superb comic actor, he also has a rock-influenced folk style and homely verse displayed in nine albums, including "Fame and Wealth." In 1998 he released his 16th album "Little Ship" and by 2000, his 20th album continued his riff over some comic existential crisis.
Wainwright is the son of a brilliant columnist, wayward, brooding and undemonstrative, and a mom with whom he did not just have strings attached - but ropes. Loudy, as he was known, grew up loving acting and music. His first two albums gained him a devoted following but poor sales, until 1972, when he went to the top-20 with "Dead Skunk." He toured constantly and recorded for a variety of labels, exploring what he called the "family-kids-parents-death-thing."
He has been married and divorced and has four kids, two out of wedlock. In 2001, he was part of the Fox sitcom "Undeclared."
