Biography
French designer whose name has become synonymous with fine handbags and luggage. At age 16 he was apprenticed to a Parisian luggage maker and in 1854 he opened his own high-end luggage shop in the City of Light. In 1885, with his fine reputation established in France, he opened a shop in London. After his death in 1892 his son Georges carried on the tradition, adapting newer materials and perpetuating the famous logo that is still used today.
