Biography
American jurist, the chief justice of the U.S. Supreme Court beginning in 1946. Prior to serving on the Supreme Court, he owned his own law practice beginning in 1911. 12 years later he became a member of the U.S. House of Representatives, a position he would hold for 15 years. After the conclusion of his service in Congress, he became an associate justice of the Supreme Court for five years. In 1945 he took a break from law to become the Secretary of the Treasury, but was back on the head court of the land the following year.
Vinson died on 9/08/1953.
