Biography
American homicide, one of the Manson family involved in the Tate-La Bianca killings of August 1969. Van Houten was convicted along with Manson, but was free in 1978 on $200,000 bail while awaiting retrial. She was given a life sentence.
During parole hearings, Van Houten claimed a minimal role but was denied parole for the 12th time in 1998. She has maintained a clean disciplinary record during her 28 years in prison. None of the Manson family followers have been granted parole.
