Biography
British artist, landscape painter and etcher, noted for his work with luminous light. He exhibited successfully from 1790, but later in his life became a wealthy miser, slovenly, solitary and secretive.
Turner was elected an associate of the academy in 1799 and full membership three years later. In 1807 he became a professor at the Royal Academy and in 1845, he was appointed deputy president. When he died, 10/19/1851 in Chelsea, he left his money to charity.
