Biography
American singer who began a career as a biologist until detoured by army service. Postwar he began singing on a Chicago radio station. Finding this to be his true direction, he began formal voice training in Italy. His debut at La Scala brought rave revues and at the New York Met he received huge ovations. His repertoire included more than 100 bass-baritone roles.
