Biography
German-American philosopher and theologian, influential as a comprehensive thinker. Ordained a Lutheran minister in 1912, Tillich held professorships at four German universities, including the University of Berlin until the Nazi regime dismissed him for criticism of the Nazis. He immigrated to the U.S. in 1933 and taught at Columbia and lectured at Harvard and Chicago Divinity Colleges.
Tillich is the noted author of a three-volume masterpiece "Systematic Theology." His influence is characterized by an attempt to mediate between traditional Christian culture and the secular orientation of modern society.
He died of a heart attack, 10/22/1965, Chicago, IL.
