Biography
American journalist, noted in her field for her longevity and her direct, to-the-point questioning of US Presidents. She joined the White House Press Corps in 1961.
After graduation from Wayne State University in 1942, Thomas landed her first job as a copy girl for a local newspaper.In 1943 she joined UPI wire service. By 1955 her beat had expanded to politics and government agencies.On May 17, 2000 she resigned from UPI and joined Hearst newspapers as Washington correspondent. At age 80 she began covering George W. Bush and her well-known antipathy for him landed her status as a persona non grata by the Bush team at White House press conferences.
