Biography
Welsh writer of poetry, short story, movie scenarios and radio scripts, immensely talented. A popular writer, his poetry and verse contains some of the most stirring and passionate words of contemporary literature.
He and his wife were known for their drinking and brawling. Toward the end, his drinking went totally out of control. Attractive, even lovable when sober, he became crude and unmanageable when drunk, using offensive language and making lewd advances toward strange women.
A poetry reading at City College two days after Thomas's 39th birthday was his final public appearance. He developed delirium tremens and a doctor was summoned to his hotel. The doctor gave the raving man a morphine injection and he went into a coma. He was admitted to the hospital on 11/05 at 1:58 AM. His wife, Caitlin, flew over in time to see him alive but "possessed of 10,000 raving demons." He died on 11/09/1953, about 1:00 PM while being bathed by a nurse, New York, NY. The autopsy cited bronchial-pneumonia, with fluid on the brain as the primary cause and aided by a fatty liver. His death struck many of his readers as a literary tragedy.

Source Notes
Original source notes for 8:56 PM GMT were from Steinbrecher quoting Koppejans, from the archives of Gavin Arthur. The source notes went on: (PC spec 7:00 PM. Old-file has 5:05 PM.) In late 2004, Sy Scholfied writes that he was born in the evening according to a biography by Andrew Lycett, "Dylan Thomas: A New Life" (Overlook, 2004), p. 7. But PT changed the time to 23;)) in October 2007 and changed the rating to A based on new research by Sy Scholfield. Sy found a notation in a letter from Thomas about his birth and wrote to PT that Thomas was born at "about 11 PM" with time of birth from Thomas in a 1939 letter written after consulting his mother ("I was
born about 11pm"), as quoted in an email from a staff member at the same
archive (See below). The letter is transcribed in the book, "Collected Letters of Dylan Thomas" (1985), p. 432: "Dear Rayner, Just to let you know that I was born about 11 pm Monday October 27 1914. ... Yours sincerely,
Dylan Thomas."
