Gustavo Thoeni (at age 18 in the slalom at the 1970 World Championships)


Italian slalom ski racer ranked among the greatest Italian skiers ever. Thöni won three Olympic medals and a total of four overall World Cup titles in five years in the early 1970s.

Sy Scholfield quotes Alberto Tomba for 6 a.m. in "Alberto Tomba, nato per vincere tutto" by Patrick Lang, Epoca, Vol. 44, 1993, p. 61: "Gustavo ha capito, ma poiché è nato alle sei del mattino ha l'abitudine di alzarsi all'alba. Per me, che sono nato di pomeriggio, è molto più diffìcile."

Translation: Gustavo understands, since he was born at six a.m. he is in the habit of getting up at dawn. For me, I was born in the afternoon, so it is much more difficult.
