Biography
Italian writer and ecclesiastic, Roman Catholic Archbishop of Rome. Tettamanzi was ordained a R.C. Priest in 1957, prelate of honour of His Holiness in 1985, consecrated Bishop in 1989, the year that he was the archbishop of Ancona-Osimo and adviser Papal Council for the Spiritual Care of the Medical Workers. Since May 1995, he has served as archbishop of Genoa, as well as member of Papal Councils for the Spiritual Care of the Medical Workers and for the Family. In 1993, Tettamanzi released an essay, "Alle sorgenti della vita: Humanae vitae. Attualita di un'enciclica." Archbishop Tettamanzi is mentioned as the possible heir of Pope John Paul II.
