Biography

British Lord, a conservative member of the House of Lords from Warwick, the only member with African-American heritage serving as an important role model in the UK.

A commoner and the son of Jamaican immigrants, a cricket-playing dad and a nurse mom, Taylor began his career as a lawyer (barrister). He earned his law degree in 1976. In 1986 he entered local politics. From 1990-1991 he served as special advisor to the Home Secretary and ran for Parliament in 1992. One eventful day in 1996, he and his wife Kathie, a pediatrician, were attending an event at 10 Downing Street when then-Prime Minister John Major approached. Admiring of his work in the courts, Major asked Taylor if he could advance Taylor's name for appointment to a lordship. That same year he was given a life peerage, becoming Lord of Warwick and therefore a member of the House of Lords.

His dad died in 1989 and his mother died in December 2001. He and his wife have two daughters.
