Talk:Sebastiao, Don of Portugal
I came across a delineation of the King's horoscope written in Portuguese by the physician/astrologer who attended his birth. He states that the Moon is in the 6th house. At the time the 5-degree rule was in standard use, so the Ascendant of the chart must be a little later than the one posted here (probably at least 2 Pisces) because in the chart posted here the Moon lies in the 7th house by traditional standards. He also states that Venus casts a sextile to the interior of the Ascendant (first house). If we allow Venus an orb of 7 degrees, then the Ascendant can be no later than 3 Pi 40. Based on my reading of the notes of the astrologer who timed the birth and prepared a natal report, I would estimate that the King was born sometime between about 8:16 and 8:22 AM. The ASC must be at least 5 degrees more than the longitude of the Moon (that is, at least 1 Pisces 59) and no later than 3 Pisces 40. An adjustment of the birth time to 8:16 AM or slightly later would be a reasonable compromise between the research of James Martin Harvey and the historical evidence taken from the original Portuguese delineation by the astrologer present at the King's birth.
