The controversy over Napoleon's true birthday is discussed and refuted in Chapter 3, Birthday, of a 1910 book, "The growth of Napoleon: a study in environment" by Norwood Young, which is available in full at Google, Books. The strongest argument against the January 7, 1768 alternate birthday is that Napoleon's family and friends always regarded Joseph as being Napoleon's older brother.
