Biography
Saturn-Pluto synodic cycle occurs about 32-36 years. This is the period when these two planets come back to the same position relative to each other, conjunct.
The Saturn-Pluto Synodic chart was given by Linda Reid on her website: November 8, 1982, 00:38 AM GMT, Greenwich, England. It occurs at 27 Libra 36, and when progressed to September 11, 2001, the date of the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center in NY and the Pentagon, progressed Pluto is 28 Libra 18 and progressed Saturn is 29 Libra 45.
In working with Synodic (or cycle charts), it is Rodden's understanding that one looks at progressions of the Synodic (or Cycle) planet ONLY.
On September 11, 2001, transiting Pluto was 12 Sagittarius 38, semisquare the Synodic Pluto-Saturn by TWO MINUTES and transiting Saturn was 14 Gemmi 45, sesquisquare the PR Synodic Saturn ONE MINUTE.
We have such conditions again on October 12, 2001, when transiting Saturn is 14 Gemini 45, sesquisquare Progressed Synodic Saturn by one minute and transiting Pluto is 13 Sag 12, semisquare progressed Synodic Pluto applying 6 min, reaching partile on October 15.
On October 11th, the first case of Anthrax poisoning was reported, an incident of bio-terror that accelerated in the following weeks.
In 2001, Saturn Retrograde is partile sesquisquare on November 18 and Pluto partile semisquare on November 26, making a volatile period. There is another period in late August 2002.
This specific Synodic combination is really not adequate to explain the immensity of the Terrorist attack, and I rather think that other Synodic events must overlap.
Susan Manuel adds, "it may be meaningful to consider the only two previous oppositions of the past 200 years that fell in the middle degrees of the mutable signs. That takes us back to the Viet Nam war (Saturn at 16:36 Pisces and Pluto at 16:36 Virgo--Nov. 30, 1965), and before that, the Spanish-American war (Saturn at 14:42 Sagittarius, Pluto at 14:42 Gemini--Dec. 4, 1898). There may be parallels among these past war-time eras and our current situation as we launch a war against terror and deal with the economic downturn."
As for the place, setting the location of the Synodic Event to New York City (retaining 0:38 AM GMT) gives us PR ASC 19 Can 40 oppos. PR Mars 19 Cap 38, conciliated by natal Jupiter at 19 Scorpio 39. In this case, further evidence than the Synodic planets is considered and I am not convinced that this is substantial; needs more evidence. Setting the Synodic to Washington DC (Pentagon) shows a PR MC of 27 Pisces 44 quincunx the Synodic degrees.
