Biography
Brazilian politician with a background in psychology. She formerly ran for Governor and was a Federal Representative of the SP province. She has an aristocratic background and is the very attractive wife of a Senator, but represents the Partido dos Trabalhadores (Worker's Party). Running for Mayor of Sao Paulo, her return for the first round is favorable and the final vote is scheduled for the end of October 2000, against an opponent, Paula Maluf, to succeed Luiza Erundina.
Suplicy formerly had her own TV show as a psychologist specializing in sexuality where she was pro same-sex marriages and pro abortion along with other controversial subjects. She and her husband have amassed a fortune between them.
Confirming everybody's expectations, São Paulo elected Marta as its new mayor: her inauguration falls on 1/01/2001, bringing hope that she succeeds in restoring
order to one of the biggest and greatest cities of the world, presently in a struggle of chaos and violence.
She and her husband, Senator Eduardo Suplicy, separated in early 2001, probably due to political reasons as well as to a certain Luis Favre, an assistant of Marta's.
