Biography

American homicide who killed two men and was given life in prison. A crippled bird flew into his cell, leading to a life study of birds, writing a textbook and becoming an authority on birds. His story was told in "The Birdman of Alcatraz" by Thomas E. Gassid in 1955 and later was turned into a movie.

Stroud was never paroled due to killing a prison guard, Andrew Turner, 3/26/1916. Stroud died 11/21/1963 Springfield, MA.
