Biography

American adopted child and homicide victim beaten to death by her adopted father 11/02/1987. She was given up for adoption to attorney Joel Steinberg (b. 5/25/41) and Heddy Nussbaum (b. 8/08 42) his common-law wife of 17 years. Steinberg was abused from childhood, a bright, articulate first grader that cried when she had to go home and was killed by repeated blows to her head by Steinberg. Another child was adopted in 1986, Travis Smigiel and neither adoption were legally followed through on. Both adults were charged with murder, Hedda was freed and Joel was convicted of manslaughter 1/30/1989.
