American pro astrologer, operator of the "Starcycles" service in San Francisco. With dynamic energy, she has been a full time professional in practice since the mid-'70s. She is the co-author of "Financial Astrology for the 1990s."
Born to Greek parents, Georgia's family changed the family name to Stathis when she was seven. Her dad was a waiter who later bought an ice cream and hamburger shop when she was about three, and later went into real estate. Her younger brother was born 4 June 1950, 8:13 AM, Chicago (and he died suddenly on 4 March 1998.) Georgia took care of her 14-month-younger brother and they both lived with various kin and care-takers in their extended family. The children were taught modern and some ancient Greek and she was expected to follow a traditional pattern of school, then marriage to a nice Greek boy.
She was an avid reader, moving ahead in grade levels. She was overweight with skin problems that lasted into her 20's. Though delayed in social development, Georgia loved dance and escaped in ballet, jazz and modern dance, that and art with her paintings. At 17, she entered Northwestern University in Evanston where she studied drama in the school of Speech and Communications. Familiar with work from the age of ten, Georgia worked through school in various jobs, feeling that if she could take care of herself she would be free of family restraints and expectations. She had her first apartment during her senior year at school.
In the spring of 1970, she had a sad breakup with a boyfriend, but met her future husband. They married that fall, just after graduation. Six months later, he entered law school in Berkeley, California, so they moved west in June 1971. Georgia went to work for a PR firm in San Francisco and they lived in a Berkeley duplex for a year. It was during that year (1971-72) that a co-worker loaned Georgia a book by Joan Quigley, and she devoured it in three days. Her husband went to work for a radio station and Georgia returned to school to study graphic arts. They went separate ways in February 1974, and Georgia went into the newspaper business in display advertising. By the time she had a divorce in November, she was studying astrology after work, sometimes falling asleep surrounded by astrology books. She began doing some readings for friends.
It was a wonderful time of growth - 1974-75 - learning to speak through Toastmaster's International and beginning lectures on astrology and historic and business cycles. She left Lesher Communications and returned to Pepperdine to get her MBA, getting some family aide and supplementing her income with astrology readings. Between 1976 and 1982, she also moonlighted as a professional belly-dancer!
She completed the tough course and got her degree in the spring of 1978. She began work in real estate in August 1979. It was a difficult time as she was troubled by allergy attacks and asthma as well as a severe car accident that put her in traction for a while.
Georgia fell in love and moved in with her partner in early 1980. They married on 8 March 1981 and their daughter Alexandra was born on 12 November 1981. Her son Gus was born 1 October 1984, and she also had two step-kids, then seven and ten. With marriage, she began working full-time as an astrologer as well as a mother. The marriage had some stress issues and they made the painful decision to divorce, December 1992. She and her ex-mate remain friends and share their parenting.
Georgia has not remarried but has raised her kids, now 16 and 19 (2001); she still sees her stepdaughters, age 27 and 30. She considers that life may have been easier in a job than in working as a professional astrologer, a freelance occupation, but she loves astrology, her field of choice. She has over 100 teaching tapes for sale through her website: www.starcycles.com, and publishes an annual calendar "Astrology in English." She made a big step in 1991 of opening an office away from her home. Where she once saw as many as four or five clients a day, she now spends more time in writing and lectures. "Business Astrology 101: Weaving the Web Between Business and Myth" was published May 2001 and she is published in various top magazines. She has the honor of being one of the faculty of Kepler College, Fall 2001, and she has been on the board of ISAR since 1997.
