Biography
Italian writer, teacher and journalist. His books include "Ex cattedra," ("Former Chair" 1987), "Il salto con le aste" ("Signs of Gold" 1990), "Eccesso di zelo" ("Excess of Zeal" 1993) and more. Two of his satires on scholastic life have
been made into Italian comedy films: "The School" ("La Scuola" 1995) and "Teeth" ("Denti" 2000) which
appeared at the Venice Film Festival in 2000. Starnone's books have been translated into Greek, French and German and he has also written numerous
television scenarios. He received the Strega Literary Award in 2001 for his novel, "Via Gemito."
Born in Naples, he now lives in Rome.
