Biography
English author of several novels and memoirs detailing her colorful, adventurous and sometimes dangerous life.
The child of a woman who had married four times and a South American writer whom she barely knew, St. Aubin reports that her mother was an abused child who became suicidal when pregnant with Lisa. St. Aubin recollects that she was a favorite child, a precocious youngster who often took care of her unhappy mother despite her own sickly nature and a bout with tuberculosis. In turn, Lisa herself has made many unhappy marriages. She left school at age 16 to marry a Venezuelan landowner, Jaime Teran. After seven years of abuse with a man whom she says was schizophrenic, violent, and obsessed with the idea of a suicide pact with his wife and young child, she escaped to Europe with her five-year-old daughter, moving from place to place to avoid being found. She subsequently married poet George Macbeth who later proved to be too contrlling. Her third husband was painter Robbie Duff Scott, and the marriage lasted 17 years.. In all, she had three children, one with each husband. In her fifties, she met a filmmaker, Mees Van Deth and began pursuing an interest in film-production. She and Van Deth set up the Terán Foundation in Mozambique.
