Biography
American co-founder of Alcoholics Anonymous. This Ohio physician and Bill Wilson laid the foundation for Alcoholics Anonymous and its 12-step program when they began to meet in Smith's home. According to Liane Thomas Wade in the International E-Mail Letter vol. 260 (Nov. 30, 2003), they first met on May 12, 1935 at 5:00 PM in Akron, OH, considered the first AA meeting, although, she continues, "when AA;s anniversary is celebrated it is on June 10, and dates back to 1936, Akron, Ohio at 5:00 PM."
