Biography
Portuguese prize-winning architect and teacher at the Porto School of Architecture, he was awarded the Pritzker Prize in 1992 for his work on the design and rebuilding of a section of Lisbon that had been destroyed by fire four years earlier. He 1988 he won the prestigious Mies van der Rohe Award and in 2009 he was awarded the Royal Gold Medal by the Royal Institute of British Architects. He is married with one son.
