Biography
American writer, a journalist, educator and social analyst, the author of three national best-sellers.
Silberman married on 9/12/1948; four sons. He was a teacher until his wife's medical bills in 1953 forced him to seek a more lucrative career, moving into the editorial position of Fortune magazine. In March 1962, he received a grant of $23,000 for a book contract and in the next two years wrote the controversial best-seller, "Crisis in Black and White." He published "Crisis in the Classroom," 1970 and "Criminal Violence, Criminal Justice," 1978. He became a lecturer and head of the Carnegie research project on education and director of the Study of Jewish Life in 1979.
