Biography
Italian opera singer, the premier bass of the Met from the time he opened in "Don Carlo" in 1950 until he closed 22 years later with the same opera. He is the recipient of the Amadeus Award in 1989. Siepe began his career as a boxer, but decided at the age of 18 to go into opera.
Citing his "violent temper" he remained single until 1962, at which time he married. He had two kids.
He died on July 5, 2010 in Atlanta, GA, age 87.
