Biography
American politician, a US Senator from New York, first elected to the US Senate in 1998 and re-elected in 2004. With seats on several prestigious Senate committees, he is often a media spokesperson for the Democratic Party. For 24 years prior to his election to the Senate, Schumer was a US Representative and a member of the New York Assembly.
A graduate of Harvard College and Harvard Law School, he has been a lifelong politician, with his first election to the New York State Assembly at age 23. In January 2007 he published a book "Positively American.."
He and his wife, married since September 21, 1980, have two daughters.
