Biography
American film director making a powerful impact with his second film, "The Panic in Needle Park," released in 1971 with Al Pacino in the starring role. His next film, "Scarecrow," also starring Al Pacino, in 1973, shared the Golden Palm Award at the Cannes Film Festival in 1973. Educated at the Univ. of Miami, Schatzberg was a former fashion photographer and director of TV commercials. His first feature, "Puzzle of a Downward Child" made a very shaky debut. Some of his other films are: "Honeysuckle Rose," "Misunderstood" and "Street Smart" and in the international field, he produced the noted film, ""Reunion," in 1989, which received notable reviews from European critics.
