Biography
American songwriter, recording artist and poet, who wrote her own material. Her attitude was light, childlike and free, as she preferred a world of beauty and sympathy. Her songs included "I've got A Brand New Pair of Rollerskates, You've Got A Brand New Key," which became a catchy hit.
Melanie Safka is the winner of a Grammy, an Emmy, scores of top female vocalist awards, and the hearts of millions from Woodstock to Albert Hall.
Over her long career, Melanie has recorded over 25 albums and sold millions of records. She was the first contemporary solo artist to play Carnegie Hall, the Met, the Sydney Opera House, and for the United Nations General Assembly. While Melanie pursued her career, she also contributed time and energy for a while as the chief spokesperson for UNICEF. Her lyrics and thoughtful and provocative, delivered with passion and intensity.
