Biography
Italian politician, a very popular two-time mayor of Rome. He competed against Silvio Berlusconi for the office of prime minister, losing on 5/14/2001. A center-left coalition candidate, he blamed his defeat on the refusal of some leftists, including some Communists, to join him.
